As a Category Buyer at DEME Group, we currently have an open position in the following Procurement Category: Shipyards, Machinery & Equipment. In this role, you will develop and implement sourcing strategies for a defined set of commodities, take the lead in managing a portfolio of preferred suppliers, build up extensive market knowledge, work together with internal stakeholders to strive for best fit solutions and be an advocate of procurement best practices within the organization. You will mainly work from our HQ in Zwijndrecht, Belgium.

Your responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a network of reliable and financially stable suppliers;
  • Develop category strategy and identify opportunities for optimizing the supply chain process;
  • Manage relationships with various internal stakeholders (business units, projects, etc.) and participate in cross functional teams that work on sourcing projects and continuous improvement;
  • Manage and guide high value purchases and strive for TCO reductions;
  • Ensure internal/external compliance with sourcing procedures and contracts;
  • Take the lead in negotiating, drafting and maintaining sourcing contracts, service level agreements, price lists, etc.;
  • Ensure standards for price competitiveness, product quality, delivery performance, safety and sustainability are met by all suppliers and corrective actions are initiated when needed;
  • Perform root cause analysis towards re-occurring supply issues and take the lead in initiating corrective actions towards structural operational issues; Report to Category Manager Machinery Equipment.

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration / Applied Economics, Business Engineering or Supply Chain Management;
  • Interest and affinity for technical subjects;
  • Relevant work experience in a procurement role is a plus;
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of Dutch & other languages is an asset;
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Excel and Powerpoint, knowledge of other software suits and reporting tools is an asset;
  • Team player with a positive attitude, hands-on mentality and high level of integrity;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit;
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic and international environment;
  • Drive for ownership and results;
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
