Scope:

On behalf of our client, a leading trade association representing major European and Pan-European Chemical manufacturers in the field of Polymers and Plastics, we are opening a very exciting opportunity for a Technical Officer to focus on high priority circularity topics.

The role involves comprehensive engagement with environmental concerns, circular economy strategies, end-of-life management, and sustainability initiatives within the EU Industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyse, and interpret technical and scientific developments pertinent to the industry products’ circularity, providing insightful intelligence on associated risks and opportunities.
  • Produce detailed briefings, reports, and recommendations to guide decision-making processes.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements, contributing to the coordination of technical working groups and the formulation of forward-looking strategies.
  • Review scientific literature on industry recycling and circularity, and support or manage relevant scientific studies.
  • Collaborate with the in-house Public Affairs & Communications teams to align priorities and manage industry reputation.
  • Foster engagement with internal and external technical stakeholders, participating in conferences and workshops to gather insights and cultivate relationships.

Your Profile:

We seek a candidate with expertise in environmental topics, circular economy principles, sustainability practices, or related fields within the EU Chemicals (polymers) Industry. The ideal applicant will excel in:

  • Analytical and Planning Skills: Proficiency in interpreting technical data and devising actionable strategies.
  • Industry Awareness and Innovation: A keen understanding of industry trends and innovative problem-solving.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences effectively.
  • Strategic Understanding: Insight into industry priorities and adeptness at distilling technical information.
  • Proactivity & Ownership: Demonstrated proactive and accountable approach with a strong commitment to sustainability.
  • Team & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build trust, foster relationships, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • University or Higher Education degree in polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, or related fields
  • At least 1 year of working experience in sustainability, industrial research, consultancy, or regulatory affairs within the polymers industry.
  • Based in Brussels, or ready to relocate on short notice
