The Role

Oxfam International is looking for a Head of EU office to provide leadership to the Oxfam confederation’s engagement with EU institutions. This role is responsible for developing and implementing Oxfam’s EU advocacy strategies, maintaining and building Oxfam’s profile and reputation as a principled and effective partner, and critical friend of the EU, and facilitating integrated collaboration on EU advocacy, programmes and funding across the Oxfam Confederation at senior level.

Are you an established leader and manager who is able to bring your influencing and networking skills to head up Oxfam’s EU office? Do you enjoy engaging with decision makers to change their minds on Oxfam’s agenda? Can you translate the organization’s agenda for systemic change into a compelling advocacy case for European leaders? If so this could be for you. We are looking for an Head of EU office with these qualities:

  • A track record of delivering ambitious advocacy strategies with a thorough understanding of the multiple tactics necessary to achieve impact.
  • Exceptional influencing skills – ability to negotiate effectively and excel in formal and informal leadership in a multi-stakeholder, formal, networked environment, and in alliances.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of people, internally and externally, and at many levels, with credibility, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Experience in managing and developing others, including through direct and matrix management, and ability to motivate and empower staff to deliver through the creation of an enabling context for success.
  • Demonstrable organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines. Significant experience of budget, fundraising, HR and performance management.
  • High level of verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to also work in French and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with multi-cultural senior staff and teams across borders, and applying feminist leadership skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to anti-racism, gender equity, women’s rights, and LGBTQIA+ rights.
