Lhoist Business Innovation Center located in Nivelles,35 km from Brussels, is lookingfor Junior Application Engineer Steel (VIE). In the framework of a V.I.E. project (volontariat international en entreprise), you will be working with a team of experts during 1 year with a possibility of renewal and hire. About The Position

We are looking for a motivated and innovative Junior Application Engineer to join the Global Application – Steel team of the Lhoist Group. You will be joining an international team (+6 nationalities) focusing on iron & steelmaking applications. You will directly support the development of innovative products / solutions for the iron & steelmaking industry, with a strong focus on sustainability and low environmental footprint products/solutions.

Your Roles andResponsibilities

Reporting to the Global Expert Application Engineer – Steel, your main responsibilities will be to:
  • Manage and lead the operation of our newly developed lab scale equipment for iron ore pellets induration (world-wide unique, state-of-the art device).
  • Support the development of innovative products / solutions at laboratory, pilot and industrial scales.
  • Contribute to business development efforts of Lhoist business units in Europe, North/South America. Include but not limited to value-in-use calculations, thermodynamic calculations by using the software thermo-calc, technical support for trial and product/solution implementation at customer site.
  • Manage our digital platforms: maintain up to date our market intelligence data and sanity of knowledge assets.
About You
  • Best in class with a University Degree (MSc, PhD) in Chemistry, Metallurgy or Material Engineering with an interest or first experience in industrial environment.
  • You are fluent in English (another language is an asset).
  • Computer skills: you are proficient in MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint. Knowledge of MS-Power BI, Thermo-Calc is a plus.
  • Some knowledge on the steel industry is a differential.
  • You have good all-round skills, a high motivation, and an ability to work independently.
  • You have excellent organizational skills, priority setting, the ability to balance a variety of tasks whilst delivering results.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • You have a team-oriented work ethic.
  • You have a positive and constructive attitude.
