Context and Scope
One of the focus areas in our Multisales strategy is delivering ‘the most efficient and effective route to market’ in each of our business units. In practical terms, this means that the supply chain is expected to provide ‘fuel for growth’ through rigorous control and optimisation of logistics costs and customer numbers together with constantly looking for and delivering improvements in service and costs. The Physical Logistics Analyst plays an important role in bringing data and facts to enable decision making on this important topic.
To achieve this, the Physical Logistics Analyst must work closely with the 3PL suppliers, customers, factories and the finance team to develop a comprehensive understanding of the current breakdown of logistics costs and the drivers for these costs.
The job holder is responsible for putting in place a process that delivers cost to serve reporting each period for priority customers. Developing an in-depth understanding of what drives end-to-end supply chain costs will allow the market supply chain team to identify changes to customer behaviour needed to drive cost efficiencies.
The role holder must build strong working relationships with the 3PLs to drive improvements in their service, flexibility and optimise cost. This includes conducting regular performance reviews, forecasting and aligning network capacity requirements and ensuring improvement roadmaps are in place with each provider.
In line with our regional supply chain and commercial strategy, the cluster supply chain team will need to internally and externally benchmark current logistics network design and 3PL performance (service, quality, cost) every three to four years. Where an opportunity is identified to drive improvement by changing 3PL, the Physical Logistics Analyst will support the local tendering activities in conjunction with global logistics buying (C@MTT) following Mars best practice processes.
Globally Mars has set the ambition to be ‘Sustainable in a Generation’ (SiG) across all business operations. From a logistics perspective in the near term cost saving initiatives are being used to also reduce waste in terms of less kilometres travelled, less fuel used etc. The job holder is expected to monitor and report progress on sustainability locally and regionally.
Key Performance Indicators for the role:
Logistics controlled costs – compliant to budget
Logistics cost efficiencies – target 3% year on year saving
Co-Pack controlled costs – compliant to budget
3PL service performance – target to be set locally
