This position is a hands-on, lab-based role with a focus on effective delivery, troubleshooting and putting ideas into action. The company provides support, supervision and coaching to associates. The incumbent ensures experiments are executed efficiently and correctly, while taking initiatives to improve protocols where necessary. The right candidate must take initiative, be efficient and well organized to deliver high quality results on time. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team. The incumbent must enjoy a "start-up" atmosphere and be flexible, show good judgment and be willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables.As a Research Associate , you will…- Prepare and sequence a range of NGS library types to support company objectives
- Perform experiments to optimize NGS assays, workflows and procedures
- Perform molecular analyses of plants including PCR genotyping, sequencing analysis, qPCR, TaqMan and Western blot
- Perform additional molecular biology tasks to support ongoing research project
- Work with Scientists and Research associates to execute scientific experiments related to one or more projects
- Interpret data and maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensible records of all experiments and results
- Communicate results in written and oral presentations
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 5+ years laboratory research experience or Master’s degree with at least 3+ years experience in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. molecular biology, plant biotechnology)
- Experience with NGS, preferably Illumina technology
- Experience with high-throughput automation is a plus
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with molecular techniques for DNA, RNA and protein analysis in plant systems (e.g. PCR, DNA sequencing, qPCR, genomic DNA and RNA purification)
- Familiarity with electronic lab notebooks and sequence analysis software ( Geneious, Benchling)
- Proactive, highly motivated and strong team player with a high degree of independence
- Innovative and critical thinking, demonstrated problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- A collaborative approach, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback
