Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Research Associate/Expert to strengthen the newly developed big R or the "Global Discovery Research" team of Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health.

The candidate will be based in the EMENA HQ in Herentals, Belgium and will work together with colleagues and external research partners in a global team.

The team will be responsible for discovering, researching and developing breakthrough products and technologies that benefit animal feed and/or livestock.
The ideal candidate has a passion for science, more specific in the field of microbiology and biotechnology and is willing to explore the fields of immunology and biochemistry. Preferably, the candidate also has expertise in next-generation sequencing and/or the animal microbiome.
The candidate should have the drive to generate and report qualitative results in collaboration with colleagues and external partners and to present the results to inspire peers.

Responsibilities:
What you’ll be doing:
  • Discover, research and develop new breakthrough molecules, formulations and technologies that can be applied to animal feed
  • Actively participate in global project teams, organize work and understand priorities as well as complete assignments accordingly
  • Plan and execute experiments in the lab, including interpretation and reporting of results in internal papers as well as in conference abstracts and peer reviewed journals
  • Design, planning, follow-up and reporting of experiments, trials, studies and analytical services in external CROs
  • Keep track of the relevant scientific literature and recognize new ideas for future breakthrough projects
  • Establish close working relationships with partnering institutes
  • Communicate and interact with all project team members
  • Facilitate technology transfer to the individual Business units
Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Industrial engineering, Bioscience Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 4 years experience in a lab environment or a PhD degree in the aforementioned fields.
  • Technical expertise in microbiology/biotechnology and knowledgeable in the areas of immunology and biochemistry. Preferably also expertise in next-generation sequencing and/or the animal microbiome.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Problem-solving skills when carrying out experiments, and the ability to find creative solutions
  • Tenacity and patience, to see research projects through from design to completion
  • Following lab procedures and safety guidelines closely and conduct experiments in a safe and efficient manner
  • The ability and desire to work in a global team: strong communication skills are a must
  • Attention to detail
  • Proven track record in scientific writing
  • Must be fluent in English (writing and oral communication)
