JOB PURPOSE
The Sustainability Advocacy Manager supports the development and implementation of a consistent sustainability advocacy strategy for the EU and the relevant countries in the EMEA region. This includes developing and leading our advocacy efforts with relevant constituencies at European and national levels.
The position plays a key role in further developing the position of Amcor as THE leading packaging company for the environment delivering on Amcor’s 2025 Sustainability Pledge and as a supplier of choice for responsible packaging and sustainability in general for the EMEA region and for Amcor Flexibles globally.
JOB DIMENSIONS
- Monitor legislation and trends at the level of the EU, countries, or as geographically defined by Amcor’s business; evaluate risks, options, opportunities, and help secure policies advantageous for the environment, society, the industry and Amcor.
- Implement Amcor’s advocacy strategy for the business group in line with Amcor’s global strategy, including solutions as they relate to packaging litter, end of life solutions, circular economy, extended producer responsibility, climate change, and legislation or taxes impacting Amcor’s business.
- Work with governmental organizations through industry/advocacy organizations or, where appropriate, directly with legislators and regulators to meet legislative and policy goals.
- Engage with NGOs and other civil society groups as required for implementing the defined strategy.
- Support regional and local Amcor management teams on policy and government affairs, building capability and alignment.
- Support the Sustainability Director in driving the agenda and help to lead trade organizations to support Amcor’s agenda and goals, including forming new organizations or coalitions where needed.
- Coordinate with customers’ and suppliers’ public affairs teams to facilitate the policy agenda from a value chain perspective and to create strong links with customers and suppliers.
- Prepare briefings for senior managers and local management teams; along with advice for procurement, product development, sales, marketing, legal, and other business functions.
- Work with the corporate communications team to develop key messages and talking points for internal and external communications.
- Perform other duties as required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Deliver performance results in line with Amcor’s public commitment as it relates to the 2025 Sustainability pledge and the overall Amcor sustainability program.
- Ensure alignment between sustainability related policy developments for packaging and Amcor’s strategy and business interests.
- Support external communication related to sustainability matters, including communication to public authorities and investors.

- Work cross-functionally, internally and externally, to align policy developments with business needs & priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge and Experience
- University degree in Public Policy, Business, Sustainability or related discipline.
- 5+ years experience in public and/or governmental advocacy roles in Europe.
- Experience in the area of environmental and sustainability related policies.
- Understanding (experience as an additional asset) of circular economy concepts.
- Experience within the legislative / policy-making process in the EU.
- Experience in the packaging, plastics, or fast-moving consumer goods industry preferred.
- Knowledge of packaging materials, technologies and processes is an asset.
- Full proficiency in English and French, other languages as a plus.
