The Electrical Engineer is a creative, motivated team player who builds upon the state of the art in embedded electronics and power electronics to design, prototype, and test next generation lithium ion batteries for electric mobility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research & Development of new battery management systems (BMS) that increase the safety, reliability, and useable life of battery systems while decreasing cost and weight

  • Design printed circuit board assemblies:

    • Select components and develop battery management circuit schematics

    • Model and analyze circuit behavior

    • Design printed circuit board layouts and wiring diagrams

    • Work with vendors and purchasing department to understand and address manufacturing challenges

  • Contribute to development and integration of firmware for the battery management electronics

  • Verify via testing the circuits function as designed

    • Design embedded circuit test and calibration hardware

    • Assist in the demonstration and validation of the circuits in a battery system

  • Conduct fault analyses with a focus on EMI/EMC, vibration, shock, pressure, temperature, and radiation

  • Support integration of battery systems with power electronics and varied loads

  • Participate as part of a cross functional team in Design Failure Mode Effects (and Criticality) Analyses (DFMEA), Root Cause Investigations, Functional Safety Hazard Analyses, and similar processes

  • Lead and participate in design reviews

  • Develop, improve, and implement electrical design & configuration best practices

  • Other duties assigned

Travel Requirements:

Minimal intermittent domestic and international travel to less than 25% of the time.

Specific Language Competencies:English Fluency Required

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar technical field preferred

  • 5-10 years of experience in BMS development preferred

  • Experience with Embedded software and PCB design required

  • Experience designing for, testing, and improving performance in challenging Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility (EMI/EMC) environments required

  • Experience with Altium or similar electronics design tools preferred

  • Experience programming and troubleshooting in C preferred

  • Experience with integration of batteries and bidirectional converters/inverters/variable frequency drives preferred

Travel Requirements:Minimal,intermittentdomestic and international travel occasionally for extended to exceed 25% of the time.

Physical Requirements:This position is largely sedentary with lifting requirements of less than 50 lbs.

Work Environment:This job operates in a professional office environment and a manufacturing plant. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and office software applications.

Expected Schedule:This is a full-time position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require long hours and occasional weekend work.
