What are you going to do

Do you want to work for one of the world’s largest retailers? In this role, you will operate at the intersection of politics, society, and business, ensuring Ahold Delhaize’s voice is heard in key policy discussions.

As Director European Affairsyou will play a key role in shaping Ahold Delhaize’s relationship with EU institutions and policymakers. Based in Brussels, you will be the company’s voice at European level, ensuring that Ahold Delhaize’s priorities are well represented in legislative and regulatory discussions that impact the retail sector.

• You will independently build and strengthen relationships with the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, and other relevant stakeholders.
• You will identify and analyze political and regulatory developments, translate them into strategic insights, and design lobbying strategies that align with Ahold Delhaize’s priorities. In doing so, you will help ensure that future EU policies enable us to continue delivering on our ambition: making healthy and affordable food accessible to all.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for our Public Affairs colleagues across EU Member States and the US, you will provide strategic advice on dossiers such as food accessibility, trading practices, packaging and waste regulation, data protection, and EU–U.S. trade.
• You will also represent Ahold Delhaize internally and externally, working closely with our CEO, senior management, and trade associations to strengthen both the company’s and the retail industry’s reputation in Europe.
• You are a senior member of the team, acting as deputy to the VP Public Affairs towards the EU institutions, who is responsible for Ahold Delhaize’s national and European advocacy.
  
  

Who are you

You are a seasoned Public Affairs professional with deep knowledge of EU institutions, decision-making processes, and political dynamics. With 6–10 years of experience in Belgium—whether in public affairs, government, or political organizations—you know how to anticipate policy trends, translate them into business impact, and build effective advocacy strategies.

You combine strong analytical and strategic skills with the ability to simplify complexity, providing senior leaders with clear, actionable advice and a strong network in Brussels. You are diplomatic yet decisive, persuasive yet collaborative, and you know how to build trust with both policymakers and internal stakeholders.

Fluent in English, you communicate with clarity and confidence, and additional proficiency in Dutch or other European languages is an asset. Most importantly, you bring strategic vision, commercial awareness, and the leadership qualities to represent Ahold Delhaize at the highest levels in Brussels and beyond.

Additionally, we value a proactive, entrepreneurial, and results-driven mindset. You are skilled in balancing different interests and excel at building relationships across various levels.
