Global Fermentation Technology Specialist
Purpose Of The Job
The Global Fermentation Technology Specialist manages and leads strategic projects in the field of yeast and fermentation process technology to deliver solutions to the business world-wide for beer brewing and fermented beverages, as well as for biotechnology (eg. high added value compounds via fermentation).
The position focuses on developing innovative fermentation processes and technologies to improve quality, performance, and sustainability for applications in the field.
Responsibilities
- Lead, drive and support the implementation of fermentation projects in breweries in the different AB InBev Zones and provide the required technical support and solutions to ensure speed to market.
- Lead R&D or Front-End-Innovation (FEI) projects in fermentation (lab, pilot, and industrial scale) by generating and prioritizing new ideas, building project plans and required budgets, developing solutions, balancing resources utilization, managing cost and timing according to company priorities.
- Coordinate with people from the laboratory, pilot brewery, breweries and innovation centers world-wide, multidisciplinary project teams, external partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Work with internal stakeholders, external partners, and suppliers to scout for and develop new technologies in the field of yeast and fermentation.
- Initiate and manage projects with external partners, and prospect opportunities to fund and develop new partnerships with external institutes.
- Play a key role in the Yeast & Fermentation Knowledge Center and Global Network, by connecting key stakeholders, developing and sharing knowledge/expertise, promoting synergies among the AB InBev Zones and supporting Global and Zone Innovation and Supply teams.
- Develop, share, and manage knowledge/expertise to find and promote innovative solutions allowing increase of AB InBev profitability by maximizing quality, process efficiency and sustainability, and consumers preference.
Education
- You have a PhD, or equivalent R&D experience, in the field of applied scientific disciplines such as Brewing Science & Technology, Industrial Biotechnology, Fermentation Technology, Industrial Microbiology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess engineering, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biochemistry.
- Complementary Technical Brewing education is an asset.
- At least 5 years of experience in an industrial environment in a brewing, fermentation technology, biotechnology or bioprocessing field, working with yeast-based fermentation systems.
- Technical project management, planning, risk management and problem solving.
- Technology development & implementation, equipment implementation and process optimization.
- Complementary expertise/knowledge in analytical chemistry is an asset.
- Experience in writing projects for external funding is an asset.
- Proven leadership skills and capable of working effectively through cross-functional and international project teams.
- Ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate.
- Manage multiple Front-End-Innovation (FEI) and Implementation projects simultaneously in an environment with high complexity, uncertainty, and challenging timeframes.
- Work with a high degree of self-coordination and independence.
- Strong team player with good social skills and high energy level, target-oriented with respect for quality and timing.
- Having industry, technology, consumer, and functional knowledge.
- Ability to deal with Intellectual Property (IP) matters.
- Operate across different cultural and geographical realities, with flexibility to undertake short assignments abroad.
- Fluency in English (written / spoken), other language skills constitute an additional asset.
- A mindset that embraces change as a natural part of business and demonstrates courage and optimism during times of crisis or change.
- Excellent communication skills
