The successful candidate will be part of a team that is implementing campaigns for the European region and building strategic partnerships with organizations that are key to Microsoft’s mission and values – in an effort to help Microsoft’s European Government Affairs team engage with policymakers, regulators, trade groups, academics, and others to help shape the role of technology to enable greater economic opportunity in the face of our changing economy.

Responsibilities

Pr ogram Management
  • Contributes to the development and supports the execution of strategic European government affairs campaigns and to our collaboration with strategic third-party stakeholders in Brussels.
  • Supports the campaign team lead in engagements with internal stakeholders, including our headquarters in Redmond, our business colleagues and our colleagues based in Washington, DC and in national capitals across Europe.
  • Assists in coordinating the alignment of our priorities across European capitals in close collaboration with Government Affairs teams in Microsoft’s European subsidiaries.
  • Develops strategies for European regulatory and/or legislative initiatives in collaboration with the rest of the European Government Affairs team; assesses their impact on Microsoft goals and objectives; and delivers materials (e.g., strategy, policy briefings, other documentation) to internal stakeholders.
  • Excels in project management and is able to work with teams across geographies and functions.

Subject Matter Expertise
  • Together with the team, develops and implements strategies for leveraging partnerships with third parties (e.g. think tanks, academia) and key influencers to advance public policy frameworks that will enable and accelerate the adoption of technologies that our customers and partners need for their ongoing digital transformation and competitiveness in Europe, and that will foster economic growth more broadly for communities across Europe.
  • Evaluates communication channels and gathers insight from key influencers (e.g., Government Affairs, Engineers) to communicate and contribute to the advancement of Microsoft’s public policy agenda.
  • Assists in the gathering of data and intelligence information to support the preparation of position papers, policy briefings, presentations, and legislative testimony for legislative action.
  • Stays up-to-date on issues relating to public policy and/or geo-political topics and provides input for advancing Microsoft’s policy agenda on the basis of this knowledge.

Representing Microsoft
  • Identifies opportunities for internal and external engagement; assists in coordinating internal/external events, including developing content, drafting materials, and driving social media engagement.
  • Implements the communications strategy to ensure programs are integrated into external stakeholder messaging.
  • Internal Collaboration and Campaign Management
  • Supports in the process of connecting all of European Government Affairs’ stakeholders to program development and execution.
  • Participates in and coordinates intra-group and/or cross-group projects.
  • Escalates and helps resolve cross-group priority conflicts to gain alignment across teams as needed.
  • Addresses internal stakeholders’ objectives and priorities when making recommendations on projects and resource priorities.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field AND experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.
    • OR experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in developing and managing strategic relationships to advocate and influence public/technology policy priorities.
