The role of Head of Wavre Engineering and Maintenanceis a new role as part of the Belgium Engineering Transformation.

The objective is to reinforce the Wavre leadership team with a new role to enable establishing clear responsibilities and further strengthen the technical expertise of the Wavre site to make a step-change in safety. With the gradual transfer of production activities to Wavre and the transformation of the Rixensart site into a R&D Centre, the creation of a dedicated Engineering & Maintenance Team in Wavre will also ensure a smooth execution of the Wavre site master plan.

Your responsibilities:

Based in the GSK Vaccines Wavre site and reporting to the Head of Belgium Engineering & Maintenance (BeEM) the Head of Wavre Engineering & Maintenance will work together with colleagues on the Wavre Leadership Team (Manufacturing, EHS, Site Management, Quality) and the BeEM Leadership Team to support the Wavre site business objectives.

  • Lead a central team in Wavre accountable for providing and maintaining safe, reliable and cost-effective facilities, equipment and related utilities for Manufacturing, Quality and R&D for the site of Wavre. The team size is 180-200 FTE’s + Contingents + Services Contractors
  • Develop the technical vision for the Wavre site and the strategy to reach it in alignment with the Wavre Site Master Plan
  • Manage the evolution and modernization of the site regarding equipment and facilities in alignment with the Site Master Plan. Lead major Technical Remediation Programs and Site Master Plan projects for the site
  • Operate and supervise Power plants and distribute utilities (Black utilities, Electricity, Purified Water, etc.) throughout all Wavre operations (10 Manufacturing Units, R&D, Quality Control, Admin Building etc.) to support business ambition and to improve utility robustness and flexibility
  • Operate and supervise engineering assets by providing a service meeting the specific business requirements (Manufacturing, Quality and R&D) including the maintenance of all Wavre buildings
  • Optimize Wavre Asset Life Cycle Management through obsolescence management, performance targets, regulatory compliance and cost efficiency. Be building owner for all Wavre buildings
  • Drive safety first, 100% compliance of the site liquid waste management and manage high severity risks including process, electrical and machinery safety
  • Oversee contractors and lead improvement in quality and safety
  • Build engineering talent and capabilities in strategic areas such as leadership and engineering competencies
  • Take an active role in managing social partners and progressing the Industrial Relationship agenda
  • Support sustainability agenda on energy and water per the GSK ambition through the deployment of energy & water management reduction strategy and associated programs
Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals

  • Master in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical and/or Mechanical)
  • At least 10-15 year experience in Engineering, Production and Maintenance Management role
  • Excellent written and spoken French and English

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics it would be a plus:

  • Comfortable in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Experienced in dealing with unions / works councils.
  • Good financial understanding and capability to manage a substantial budget.
  • Recognized professional qualification / certification in Project Management and Lean Management (e.g. Black Belt, operational experience, logistic background, etc.…)
  • Excellent in Performance Management, Pragmatic and result driven
  • Structured, organized. Excellent planner.
  • Knowledge of cGxP requirements
  • Experienced in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrated success in leading in ambiguous situations
  • Strong influential and negotiation skills
  • Experienced with senior stakeholder management
  • High learning agility is key
  • People management experience
  • Flexibility, tenacity, strong logical approach to problem solving
  • Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple issues and effectively prioritize.
  • Able to motivate or inspire both junior and senior staff
  • Has a leadership approach that inspires confidence, buy-in and followership
