Description:

Workplace Options have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Legal Counsel in our Ghent, Belgium office. This will be a hybrid position with a mixture of office and home working days. The Junior Legal Counsel will provide a wide range of legal and administrative support to WPO’s Legal Team including but not limited to, legal research, analysis, litigation management, transactional and other general support as needed to the legal team relating to legal, compliance, and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs research and analysis of global laws, rules, regulations, and litigation applicable to the organization. Interprets and advises on same to ensure compliance.
  • Works with outside counsel and internal lines of business to manage and resolve litigation as well as other compliance and legal matters.
  • Reviews, analyses and drafts contracts, confidentiality agreements and other transactional documents.
  • Identifies relevant statutes, regulations, judicial decisions, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material.
  • Prepares and/or executes legal documents by analysing, drafting, negotiating, and reviewing these documents to ensure consistency with respect to the company’s philosophy or principles with respect to risk, and commercial and legal soundness.
  • Takes preemptive measures to avoid legal risks and conflicts.
  • Checks transactional and corporate governance documents for accuracy. Organises, analyses, cross checks and validates information as needed.
  • Assists the Legal team in managing legal and cross-functional projects.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education:

  • Minimum of a BA in Law or related subject.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a corporate legal field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in French, Dutch, and English.
  • Interest in global business.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Ability to read, analyse and interpret government regulations and use legal research tools like Lexis, Westlaw etc.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally and to always provide exceptional service, while maintaining a high degree of organisation, attention to detail, and quality of work.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, prioritise efficiently, and meet multiple project deadlines.
