The European Green Party brings together national political parties that share our Green values and are active across the entire European continent. Our positions focus on strengthening human rights, tackling the climate crisis, creating good jobs, empowering young people and building a strong, democratic Europe.

The Press officer / Communications Advisor will be responsible for strengthening the EGP’s coverage in traditional media. She/he/they are responsible for the daily press work, the implementation of the press action plan and the coordination of the classical media communication within the EGP.

The Press officer/ Communications Advisor Press officer liaises with the Brussels media, and with national media in cooperation with our member parties. They will translate Green politics into people, images, messages and other means of communication that enhance the profile of the European Green Party and strengthens the profile of its two co-chairs.

Tasks

Strategic tasks

  • Exploring innovative ways to engage with the press to strengthen the visibility of the European Green Party
  • Advising the co-chairs, the EGP Committee and the head of communications on strategic communications and press issues

Press work

  • Drafting press releases, news articles and other content
  • Organizing and coordinating press conferences and similar media events
  • Organising media presence during EGP events and missions
  • Maintaining contacts with the Green national press officers and European press officers
  • Monitoring and reacting to printed and online news concerning the EGP and the European elections.
  • Supervising contacts with media

Advice on Communication strategy

  • Monitoring policy developments, defining communication goals and objectives, developing narratives for various policy fields
  • Concept work and advice on the EGP’s European campaigning activities, both for general campaigns and election campaigns

Qualifications, professional experience and general skills

  • Candidates must have at least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least four years attested by a diploma, or
  • where justified in the interest of the service, professional training of an equivalent level
  • In addition and subsequently to the diploma, a minimum of five years of professional experience in the press and communication sector is desirable
  • Professional experience in an international environment is required
  • Candidates must have great collaborative skills to perform within a team of professionals
  • Candidates must be proactive, able to react quickly and develop their own ideas
  • High availability and flexibility are required

Knowledge of the EU political system

  • Candidates must have a very good knowledge of EU policies and institutions, EU politics
  • Candidates must have a very good knowledge of Green policy issues and the European Green political family in general, and be able to identify with those
  • Candidates must have a very good knowledge of European media

Knowledge of languages and communication skills

  • Native or near-native level of English; additional languages are an asset
  • Very high analytical and conceptual skills
  • Excellent networking and social skills
  • Ability to synthesise and communicate complex information to diverse audiences
  • Understanding of digital media and social media
