The project is a joint undertaking of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Karin Sipido, and the Department of Management, Strategy and Innovation in the Faculty of Economics and Business, Wolfgang Glanzel, who also is manager of ECOOM - Centre for Research and Development Monitoring. They bring together expertise in health and biomedical research policies, in European funding for health research and in monitoring research outputs and impact.

Responsibilities
Project
The overarching aim of this project is to identify and explore sources of public funding for health research and get a better understanding of funding policies and mechanisms and their impact. A comprehensive global map of funding organizations (Europe, N. America, Asia) will be enriched with information on policies and their evolution since 2005, based on publicly available documents and focused surveys. The study builds on documents produced by the Scientific Panel for Health, an expert group under Horizon 2020. The work is complementary to a bibliometric study of publication output in health research conducted within the research group.
The candidate will acquire acquire insights in research funding mechanisms, contribute to networking activities of stakeholders, and report results of the study in the form of academic papers.

Profile
  • You hold a PhD degree, or equivalent research experience, in Biomedical, Life Sciences, Economics, or Political Sciences. Knowledge of web-based search strategies, surveys, statistics and data management is expected.
  • You are flexible, able to work independently and have a problem-solving attitude.
  • You are highly motivated to work in a multidisciplinary research team, and have excellent communication skills in English.
