The Head of Medical Excellence & Operations, Europe is accountable for coordinating, delivering, and executing comprehensive regional medical plans to complement and support the overall European vaccines strategy at regional and country level. This includes: medical engagement, insight gathering, evidence generation, publication strategy, European medical congress strategy, and customer-facing activities. It serves as a key partner with other European and country level matrix functions (commercial, regulatory, legal, market access, and payers) and a driver for activities co-led with countries and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities will be:

  • To drive the European regional medical strategy development in close collaboration with the European Area Medical Leads (AMLs), vaccines Value Evidence and Outcomes (VEO) teams, regional, global and LOC commercial and wider cross-functional teams.
  • To lead and coordinate the development of regional strategic and operational plans in collaboration with the AMLs, functional partners in line with the global strategy and country level market access needs and evidence gaps.
  • To drive, coordinate and support gathering of medical insights from local and regional entities and key external stakeholders, identify strategies and activities to address medical market access challenges and unmet medical needs from a regional perspective in collaboration with the AMLs and VEO teams Global Medical Affairs, and other areas of the business to provide optimal support to the European vaccines Medical teams
  • To contribute actively where necessary to the delivery of strategic and operational activities within the medical plans at regional and LOC level.
  • To ensure consistent standards, processes for and delivery of the regional plans and their execution.
  • To supports the performance monitoring and drive performance improvement across the regional entities, providing strategic & operational support to the ‘Head of vaccines Medical Affairs Europe’
  • To lead the planning and execution of key events/meetings for the European vaccines medical teams to facilitate cross-functional learning and best practice sharing across countries and regional and global teams.
  • To ensure seamless collaboration and two-way communication within the European vaccines matrix team.

Job related Experience:

  • This is a visible role that has accountability for the delivery of critical inputs impacting product and portfolio strategy and decision-making at senior levels of the Vaccines organisation.
  • It will require significant interaction with senior leaders and therefore requires expertise in the area combined with good business understanding.
  • The role requires deep understanding of therapy areas, scientific and technical relating to the products or areas of expertise managed.

Basic Qualifications

  • You have successfully completed bachelor’s degree in Medical Science or related fields
  • You have several years of experience in designing and delivering medical affairs brand plans and coordinating medical engagement activities
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of therapy area, treatment options and patient care
  • You have familiarity with the key medical/scientific experts within the therapeutic field.
  • You are a member of Medical Expert speaker pool for Europe

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing the navigation of decisions on complex fast-moving cross-functional and global initiatives through multiple parties in matrixed organisations.
  • High Emotional Intelligence with demonstrable ability to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
  • Education qualification in PharmD or physician (M.D. or equivalent)
  • Board Certification/Qualification, in selected therapeutic area.
