Head of EHS Technical Services – Belgium

As the Head of EHS Technical Services, you will play a strategic role and will be a key member of GSK Vaccines Business Unit. The role reports directly into the Belgium EHS Director.

The Head of EHS Technical Services has strategical and higher management responsibilities, including:
  • development and implementation of strategies in relation to the main EHS risks in Belgium,
  • ensuring that appropriate EHS standards are developed and identifies the EHS resources and budget needs to ensure that the business and compliance requirements are met,
  • leading the team consists of experts and EHS managers. This position works together with GSK business senior executive leaders to continually evaluate business needs & compliance and adjust strategies accordingly.
This role has responsibilities across Belgium for all GSK businesses (Vaccines, Consumer Healthcare, ViiV and Pharma) and has interactions on a global EHS level in relation to main EHS risks Belgium.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop & implement strategies for following main EHS risks in Belgium: Building & life safety (fire & loss prevention), Contractor management, Safe Systems of Work, Process safety.
  • Initiate, direct and support EHS and Sustainability programs within Belgium to achieve EHS performance targets, regulatory compliance and cost efficiency programs.
  • Ensure alignment and compliance to local regulations and permits, and to GSK standards.
  • Work with the leadership team of business to integrate EHS into their Strategy and activities.
  • Develop an EHSS culture and foster the risk ownership by the business.
  • Assure appropriate budgets and resources are in place to meet above.
  • Manage a team of EHS managers that provides support to leadership of Belgium site management (BeSM), Belgium Engineering and maintenance (BeEM), Global functions located in Belgium e;g. Capex group of Global Engineering), Pharma Belgium, Consumer Healthcare Belgium, ViiV Belgium.
  • Manage a team of EHS experts that provides expertise to Belgium and Global in relation to main EHS risk Belgium:
    • Building & life safety (fire & loss prevention)
    • Contractor management
    • Safe System of Works (High hazard utilities)
    • Process safety
  • As part of your role, you could be requested to participate in key external forums / industry bodies ensuring Vaccines position is represented and business impact of legislation changes are understood and integrated into business plans.
  • Mentor existing EHS personnel to further develop capabilities in EHS technical expertise across Belgian Vaccines sites.
Why you?
  • MSc Degree e.g. civil, mechanical, electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years’ relevant working experience in a complex pharmaceutical environment, including leading team function.
  • Previous regional/global function and experience in major organization are preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering, Project Management, and EHS principles related to contractor mngt, fire & loss prevention, safe system of works, process safety.
  • Ability to regularly communicate with large organizations to promote accountability and collaboration among groups.
  • Prevention advisor level 1 certification.
  • Demonstrable experience of building happy, engaged and high performing teams.
  • Developing People – creating ways to coach, mentor and provide constructive feedback to each other in a transparent and respectful manner as well as creating a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Flexible thinking – looks for improvements in new and existing processes.
  • Experience of working through contract negotiations with partners and 3rd parties.
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and reliability in the most high-stress situations.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills. Strong influencing skill.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including presentation skills.
  • Excellent English spoken and written.
  • Experience in managing budgets.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Willingness to travel if needed.
