In which team is this position situated?

The Internal Control function at Volvo Cars is a function within the Business Control & Transformation, Group Finance and you will be a part of a global team that drives business performance to realize the objectives set out in Volvo Car Group’s Corporate Strategy. The purpose of the Internal Control function is to assist the Board and management in executing their Internal Control responsibilities over external financial reporting. We are a team of 11 individuals spread across the globe and we work with ensuring adherence to internal control frameworks as well as ensuring the overall effectiveness of the internal control system.

We are now looking for Internal Control Expert and you will be based in Belgium where the Central European Cluster and the Ghent plant are based. In this role, you will support the accounting cluster, the Ghent plant and the several sales companies with internal control matters, and a strong collaboration with the rest of the global team will be in place.

This role will give you a big opportunity to develop a wide network of contacts within the global organization of Volvo Cars as well as getting a comprehensive view of the internal control activities within the Group.

You will report to the Head of Internal Control in Gothenburg, Sweden.

What are the responsibilities in this job?

The Internal Control Expert will provide support to operations (both in the Belgium HUB and the connected National Sales Companies in EMEA) in achieving internal control requirements and ensure control foundation is well defined and documented. The position will focus on processes and controls to ensure they are developed and maintained for all functions based in Belgium, Ghent plant and several National Sales Companies(Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, and UK). Support the operations as an interface with Internal Control Global Operations and provide timely and accurate reporting of all activities related to internal control.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Ensure good internal control and secure high quality within the financial processes through articulating key risk in business processes, assess control design, challenge, and advise business operations on control improvements over financial reporting.
  • Self-Assessment Program – help drive annual process for the Central European Cluster, the national sales companies (NSCs) as well as the Ghent plant, including quality assurance and reporting of results.
  • Support Operations in identifying, defining, and closing adherence gaps for Volvo Cars and processes associated with our related parties and new business models.
  • Proactively suggest improvements to financial and operational working procedures within the NSC, the plant and the Cluster, to include driving process improvement to protect company assets and profitability through implementation of documented internal control and operational process and procedures.
  • Take active part in internal control reviews within the area of external financial reporting. Lead or participate in different transformation projects and work proactive with financial processes and always strive for improvements.
  • Promote the importance of internal controls throughout the organization.
  • Provide training in all areas of internal control over external financial reporting.
What are the requirements?
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or similar
  • 3 to 5 years’ Experience working in auditing, internal controls, or compliance departments. Experience from working at a Big 4 firm, experience of SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) environments and COSO framework is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial internal control theory and its practical application.
  • Proven ability to reason logically, identifies necessary inquiry, and draw well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Strong communication skills; effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skills in presenting findings and recommendations at various levels.
  • Strong understanding of corporate accounting processes.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to drive change in a dynamic environment.
  • Effortless fluent in English, oral and written.
