RESEARCH ENGINEER AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

You work together with researchers on a perception system for autonomous vehicles with a work function (carried out by an implement). The perception system includes functionalities including sensor (signal) processing, sensor fusion, target tracking, world modeling and query handling. The focus of the innovative aspect is on increased modularity and flexibility of the software architecture. The ultimate goal is a distributed perception system (where vehicle and implement are different agents) that can still guarantee the requirements for real-time collaborative control. The modular architecture of the perception system allows - with minimal overhead - to add new agents and/or sensors, adapt underlying models, and instantiate the necessary communication interfaces.

| Your challenges?

• Develop a new architecture for modular perception;
• Implement algorithms for localization, mapping and target tracking;
• Install and use software for point cloud and image processing;
• Addressing challenges around real-time aspects in communication interfaces;
• Perform simulation-driven validation;
• Integrate validated modules into the global system and test on various industrial applications (tractor with front fork, mobile platform with robot arm, ...).
