Description
A tribe scrum master (TSM) removes impediments cross-squad at Tribe level and coaches the tribe leadership squad. This person closely collaborates with the Scrum Masters of the Squads. The tribe scrum master role is an extension of the scrum master role within a squad. He/she has the best view on the delivery and helps the squad(s) to resolve their impediments and dependencies as a servant leader.
Responsibilities
  • Prepares and facilitates events and ceremonies (e.g. Quarterly Planning, Scrum of Scrums, Quarterly Review, Quarterly Retrospective)
  • Manages dependencies between squads.
  • Removes or escalates impediments.
  • Acts as a tribe servant leader.
  • Drives continuous improvement.
  • Follows and reports on risks.
  • Responsible for governance and coordination.
Activities
  • Drives tribe organization and events by; preparing and facilitating the synchronization events (e.g. quarterly planning, Scrum of Scrums, quarterly review, quarterly review);and establishing and communicating the annual calendars for iterations and quarters.
  • Ensures coordination within the tribe by; coordinating with the Tribe Product Owner, Enterprise Architect, Product Owners , and other stakeholders to ensure strategy and execution alignment;and facilitating communication and dependencies resolution between squads.
  • Helps squads to manage risks and dependencies, escalating to the Tribe Lead and/or (tribe) product owner(s) when needed.
  • Manages Risks on tribe level, including I-Track tracking.
  • Escalates impediments and tracks them when required.
  • Escalates and track KPIs and Key Agile Metrics.
  • Coaches leaders, squads, and scrum masters in adopting Agile practices and mindset.
  • Fosters communities of practice, Guilds, and knowledge sharing.
