Will you join us in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible?To strengthen our Investigative Toxicology team, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Histology Scientist.The position is based on our site in Braine l’Alleud, Belgium.The investigative toxicology (iTox) team is an integral component of the Non-Clinical Safety Evaluation function of Development Sciences, which as a department provides strategy and support in integrated non-clinical safety, pathology, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and DMPK, bioanalysis, immunogenicity, and regulatory activities throughout the lifespan of projects, from target identification through to clinical studies.As a Histology Scientist,you will perform the various tasks required for processing and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist. This includes the development and validation of IHC assays or related technics.Scope of the role: you will be focused on supporting toxicology and Tissue Cross-Reactivity studies for therapeutic modalities such as gene therapy, new chemical, and biological entities across all our therapeutic areas (Neurology, Immunology, Bone, and Rare Diseases).You like to work in an environment where you can:

You Will Contribute By
  • Carry out all histology processing-related technical steps (sample collection, trimming, paraffin-embedding, decalcification, sectioning, histochemical staining).
  • Where appropriate, characterize antibodies, conduct reagent evaluation, and perform reagent qualification/tissue preparation optimization assessments.
  • In close collaboration with pathologists, you will develop the pre-clinical IHC assay, troubleshoot technical challenges, and support technical transfer to the Contract Research Organisation (CRO) to ensure validation in the agreed timelines.
  • Perform routine data analysis through the various development phases under the pathologist’s supervision.
  • Maintain an awareness of new/emerging techniques and tools relevant to the field.
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience, and skills:
  • Candidates should have a BSc or higher academic qualification in a biological discipline.
  • Previous experience of working in pharmaceutical drug discovery and development environment with the willingness to learn.
  • Solid basis in histology/histopathology and microscopy with proven hands-on direct expertise in pre-clinical or clinical histology, IHC and other related techniques (in situ hybridization)
  • Proven track record of validating and optimizing novel fit for purpose IHC/histology-based assays from first principles for pre-clinical safety/tissue cross-reactivity assessments.
  • Hands-on direct expertise in slide preparation (tissue processing through to slide cutting and staining).
  • Proven collaboration and communication skills with scientists in other disciplines. Good organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptable to changing project and organizational priorities and consistently aligned with departmental needs.
  • Prior experience with image analysis software, digital imaging, and Artificial Intelligence Software applied to whole slide imaging is a plus.
