Description:

Johnson & Johnson is recruiting a Senior Scientist to join the Neuroscience Discovery team located in Belgium, working in the field of Neurodegenerative Diseases with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

We are looking for a scientist with experience in working in a drug discovery environment to lead the execution of research programs. The selected candidate will be part of an established multidisciplinary team that is focussed on drug discovery programs in the field of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. As part of our team, you will be accountable for driving the science and managing the team performance to deliver high quality data supporting drug discovery projects.

Your key Responsibilities:

  • Work with cross-department teams to drive the science on biology projects in alignment with research projects deliverables and department strategy.
  • Lead a team of scientists with accountability for conducting effective performance management, as well as reviewing and auditing of data.
  • Assist the team with design of experiments, data interpretation, and communication to stakeholders. Responsible for managing operational aspects of the team as well as ensuring achievement of team goals within established timelines and budgets.
  • Design and perform highly complex experiments as a developing subject matter expert, spending 50-80% of time on lab work depending on project responsibilities.
  • Accurately interpret complex datasets and effectively communicate impact to stakeholders.
  • Use emerging developments in emerging fields to generate new research ideas and initiatives.
  • Effectively collaborate with external collaborators.
  • Build internal and external network through contributions to publications and presentations.

Qualifications:

We would love to hear from YOU, if you have:

  • PhD or Equivalent in Neuroscience, biomedical sciences or related area.
  • 3+ years of experience in working in a drug discovery environment including leading of execution of research programs with demonstrated success, preferentially in the field of neuroscience.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience and capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience of at least 6 years with in vitro biochemical and/or cellular assays.
  • Good organizational and leadership skills, attention to detail, and shown ability to work in a fast paced, highly interactive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical & scientific problems with creative and flexible solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparation of presentations and reports.
  • Strong team member who thrives when working a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in brain proteostasis field related to Alzheimer’s and/or Parkinson’s disease is considered a plus.
