The work schedule for this position is: Part Time (20 hours per week)
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (15 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Duties
The Community Liaison Office Assistant (CLO Assistant) assists the CLO Coordinators in the development and management of post programs to maintain high morale of community members. Identifies needs within the post community and responds with effective programming, information, resources and referrals.
On a daily basis, the CLO assistant, through phone contact, email, and face-to-face interaction, provides support and guidance to client(s) on quality of life issues under the broad portfolio of CLO responsibility. These areas of specific responsibility include: information and resource management, welcome and orientation, community liaison, and events planning. The incumbent uses tact, sensitivity, and judgment when dealing with CLO customers, being to situations requiring confidentiality or reference to his/her supervisors.
The incumbent contributes to the development of and provides pre- and post-arrival information and resources to newcomers to ensure successful acclimation to the Tri-Mission community and Brussels. Usually working without direct supervision, the CLO Assistant administers elements of the sponsorship program and assists with welcome activities, include planning and executing official post orientation events, contributing ideas, and handling logistics. Such activities require the ability to plan in the near and long terms, to effectively use community resources, and to think creatively about what is required to meet newcomer needs.
The incumbent assists in the planning and execution of departure seminars and reentry workshops for departing employees and family members. This includes coordination with participating offices at post and compiling current regulation information and policies for departing employees. Culls incoming materials for information pertinent to those who are reentering the States.
Greets and assists visitors with materials available in the CLO Office, providing information about the community and CLO programs. The incumbent updates information on both local and international schools, adult education opportunities, childcare, local organizations, and services as required. Maintains office supplies and organizes office materials, along with maintaining the CLO travel and resource library by shelving, cataloguing, and updating the books. The CLO assistant encourages volunteerism through community outreach. Supervises some Summer Hire projects and the volunteers at various CLO functions.
The CLO assists in maintaining, updating and expanding information on the CLO website. This would include updating currently posted information as needed, researching and creating new resource sheets as community needs arise, and removing outdated material as required.
Qualifications and Evaluations
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years of experience in an office environment of which at least one year experience with customer service.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Should be familiar with the rhythm and cycles of the Foreign Service lifestyle and Embassy operations including functions of non-state agencies at post (i.e. military agencies) and the various policies and country context that shape community needs and concerns.
High school diploma required.
LANGUAGE: Fluency in English is required. This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be to work as a part of a team, prioritize and organize a large amount of highly varied information and perform administrative duties with minimal oversight. Must exhibit a high-level of trustworthiness and discretion. Strong computer skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective contacts in local business and service

Benefits and Other Info
Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Brussels may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
