Purpose of the job

In Barco Labs, highly skilled experts are exploring new technologies and building first-of-a-kind proof of concepts for our Healthcare, Enterprise and Entertainment divisions or to venture into new markets.

We challenge ourselves to stay on top of state-of-the-art technology by building demonstrators and explore new use cases with internal and external stakeholders.

The healthcare innovation team in Barco Labs, shapes the healthcare solutions of tomorrow. The healthcare innovation team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of technical, commercial and clinical people. In an entrepreneurial way, we start from true needs of healthcare professionals and patients, and we develop innovative solutions in close collaboration with healthcare professionals, hospitals, patients and regulatory authorities.

This position is part of a new entrepreneurial activity related to digital pathology. Together with a team consisting of researchers, developers, product management and clinical experts, you will be able to contribute to more efficient, higher quality digital pathology solutions.

As an expert engineer, you
  • Are an outcome-oriented expert, you seek to in-depth understand end-user, partner, and patient problems and think of innovative solutions.
  • Implement iteratively and in close collaboration with external (clinical) partners, first-of-a-kind prototypes and proof of concepts
  • Stay up to date with the new academic, international standardization, regulatory and commercial developments and trends in healthcare imaging and visualization applications
  • You share and interact around these insights with your peers.
  • Are a team player, you collaborate with your peers, internal stakeholders and external partners to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to challenging problems.

We Are Looking For a Colleague Who
  • Has a master in computer science engineering (or equivalent)
  • Has experience with working in a medical device development context (MDD/MDR, 510k, regulatory pathways, software as a medical device, clinical trials)
  • Has experience with design and (clinical) validation of image analysis, QA/calibration and image processing algorithms for healthcare applications, including eg.
    • Design and (clinical) validation of quality assurance and calibration algorithms for healthcare imaging and visualization devices
    • Practical implementation of (training and inference) pipelines for AI algorithms in healthcare
    • Image processing algorithms to calibrate and normalize (image) data
    • Design and validation of image processing algorithms for enhanced (color) visualization of medical images
    • Image analysis algorithms (both traditional as well as AI based) for eg. segmentation, feature detection, image classification
    • (perceptual) image compression algorithms for medical images
  • Has basic knowledge on medical imaging applications, such as digital pathology, mammography, radiology & surgical imaging.
  • Has a hands-on innovation and can-do mindset.
  • Works thoroughly and can work independently and with great perseverance towards a result that meets the requirements and constraints, that is evaluated and documented.
  • Is pro-active, takes initiative and shows end-to-end problem ownership.
  • Is a loyal team player with good (English) communication skills and willing to travel on occasion.
