To strengthen our Women of Childbearing Age team, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: WoCBA Medical Affairs Lead,based in our HQ in Brussels, Belgium (preferred), or Slough (London area), UK.

The WoCBA Medical Affairs Lead will provide medical governance and strategic leadership for all Medical Affairs activities for the WoCBA (Women of Childbearing Age) transversal mission.

They proactively partner with internal teams and cross-functional stakeholders, as well as external stakeholders to ensure aligned WoCBA value creation.

The WoCBA Medical Affairs Lead is primary responsible for embedding the corporate WoCBA strategy through collaborating with internal stakeholders (missions/functions/regions) for all patients’ populations @UCB

They will lead and communicate the medical vision and implement the WoCBA medical strategy across missions and geographies by translating science into value for patients, health care community and the organization.

They provide scientific WoCBA expertise to internal stakeholders across the organization and engage with relevant key stakeholders and partners to deliver the value story, evidence generation, scientific exchange and to seize & drive key Medical initiatives in relation to WoCBA across all approved indications.

The role demands high level of cross functional collaboration, business understanding and the ability to influence across key levels of the organization.

  • Drives scientific engagement with selected relevant key stakeholders and partners
  • Support External Engagement strategy


WoCBA Medical Strategic leadership

  • Provides medical input to the Global WoCBA cross-functional team to ensure the successful integration of critical medically focused deliverables
  • Connect with transversal teams and functions across PVU/Missions to ensure that WoCBA is consistently embedded across all patients’ populations served.
  • Works in collaboration with global and regional medical affairs team members and other functions to drive adoption and implementation of the global strategy in identified UCB regions
  • Internal collaboration - across the Missions, functions, and Regions to ensure consistency of actions, sharing of best practices and patient insights, and optimize the impact of UCB solutions
  • Collaborates with the missions Publication Leads on the integration of WoCBA in scientific communications plans as appropriate
  • Serves as a WoCBA disease area scientific and medical expert for internal customers/stakeholders, e.g., Clinical Development team, Marketing, Market Access, Regulatory and other line functions
  • Ensure compliance of promotional and non-promotional global material and all Medical Affairs activities


Drives scientific engagement with selected relevant key stakeholders and partners

  • Acts as a WoCBA reference source within UCB to build an effective and broad collaborative network throughout the company, to contribute to transversal projects that further our business and processes at UCB
  • Actively engages in international forums or consortia (e.g. IMI ConcepTION) and represents UCB’s leadership in the WoCBA medical and scientific field.
  • Supports evidence generation initiatives in the field of WoCBA with chronic severe disorders (in collaboration with ISEG, RWE, …) and contributes to the optimization of data collection processes in the UCB global surveillance database
  • Maintains a high standard of scientific knowledge and provides WoCBA medical & scientific guidance to medical teams in the regions / countries
  • Supports medical training programs and Medical Information for WoCBA across all assets when appropriate
  • Ensures compliance with the UCB standards and regulations for all medical affairs deliverables within the WoCBA mission.
  • Provides scientific input into cross-functional and promotional projects to ensure highest scientific standard and foster compliance.

External Engagement strategy

  • Provide therapeutic area Medical leadership with other transversal teams to serve unmet needs of WoCBA patients.
  • Drive forward and leverage key external partnerships to deliver WoCBA strategy
  • Fosters authentic peer scientific/medical engagement with experts
  • Provides medical expertise to the WoCBA Rapid Response Team
  • Champions scientific leadership of our data and fosters recognition of the innovative WoCBA approach
  • Anticipates changes in HC environment and collects WoCBA related disease area insights, driving strategic use of insights and medical actions

Interested? For this position you’ll need the followingeducation, experienceandskills:

  • PhD, M.D. (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of Pharmaceutical industry, healthcare ecosystems and related business compliance
  • Substantial experience in Medical Affairs (affiliate or international medical affairs preferred), (minimum of 5 years)
  • Successful track record of implementing cross-business/cross-functional planning, collaborating and solution building
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively engage internal and external leaders and serve as a WoCBA medical expert
  • Solid peer relationships with and exposure to external scientific/ clinical experts, professional & regulatory bodies, pharma associations;
  • Demonstrated experience of medical governance activities and their pragmatic implementation
  • Experience in mature assets is preferred

  • Strong scientific acumen and ability to absorb new scientific knowledge and ability to translate science into clinical patient value and business value
  • Good understanding of clinical development, medical affairs processes, and evidence generation (i.e. RWE)
  • Positively influence performance excellence and innovation across all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; establishes trust and partnership collaboration with Cross-functional leadership, regional & global colleagues internally and externally
  • Strategic planning, business acumen and value drivers understanding
