Job Description

For the Physico-Chemistry Quality Control laboratory of the manufacturing plant in Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium, Zoetis is looking for a QC Lean Lab Specialist.

The QC Lean Lab Specialist is responsible for managing the application and integration of Lean Six-Sigma methodologies and key continuous improvement processes across PQC laboratory. He/she has a deep knowledge of QC operations, good business acumen and strong interest in continuous improvement in business systems.

The QC Lean Lab Specialist reports directly to the site Operational Excellence Director with dotted line to the PQC Manager.

In the role of QC Lean Lab Specialist, you would be part of the team driving the Operational Excellence culture/thinking throughout the site. As an ambassador of Lean-Six Sigma methodology you will support and embed a culture and mindset of operational excellence across the site, support and train your colleagues and help them understand and implement these methodologies.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities for this role include:

  • Lead the implementation of Lean Lab program, part of the Zoetis Production System.
  • Deliver initiatives defined in the Hoshin Kanri matrix of QC department, to contribute achieving our strategic objectives.
  • Identify, assess, prioritize, and deliver new process improvement initiatives, to reduce lead-time, waste, delivering expected cost savings
  • Assist the QC department in the application of Lean principles, tools, and methodology
  • Innovate our analytical processes introducing recent solutions and technologies developed by global functions of the Group, also liaising with other Zoetis manufacturing sites and external suppliers.
  • Support the implementation of Standardized Work to reduce the variation in analytical processes, invalid tests and Out-of-Specifications, ensuring harmonization of ways-of working within the department.
  • Identify, collect, and contribute to best practice examples and ensure knowledge sharing within teams of the department.
  • Act as champion for problem solving sessions during the investigation for deviations or incidents, using common Lean-Six Sigma tools (A3, 5-Whys, Ichikawa, etc.), facilitating workshops and leading Kaizen events.
  • Be a visible advocate, educator and communicator for the Lean deployment and Continuous Improvement Mindset across quality control department
  • Train and coach colleagues in Lean thinking and Continuous Improvement methodologies, creating capabilities for a high performing organization.
  • Prepare, improve and deliver training material and SOPs related to Operational Excellence.
  • Train, mentor, and coach Yellow Belt of the department
  • Maintain records regarding associate training and certifications



Other

  • Timely collect data to update departmental metrics helping QC achieve productivity targets, reduce cost of analysis, eliminate errors and deliver excellent service to our stakeholders
  • Analyze metrics to drive improvement. Measure tasks durations and update standard durations in our systems.
  • Collaborates in achieving business results, in compliance with Quality and EHS requirements



Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience with physico-chemical analytical methods
  • Must have a minimum of 3-5+ years’ experience in a laboratory GMP environment, in a pharmaceutical company
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent
  • Lean-Six Sigma Green Belt certification is mandatory. Black Belt certification is an asset
  • Foundations of Project Management (CAPM, PMP or Prince2 certification is a plus)
  • Demonstrable expertise, knowledge and application of driving sustainable change via Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma tools (e.g., Load balancing, SMED, 5S, VSM, Process map, Process capability, Standardized Work, tiered accountability, Kaizen events, etc.) are a must-have in order to be successful in this role
  • You need to be able to work across multiple teams and disciplines and be a dedicated team player.
  • Able to focus on continuous improvement - keen interest in lean practices and in improving business processes
  • Excellent data interpretation and analytical skills; high proficiency in Excel and a knowledge of Minitab are also required for this role.
