Are you looking for a high-profile operational leadership role that allows you to accelerate efficiency and drive effective risk management? If so, this Sr Regional Environment Health and Safety Director could be an exciting opportunity to explore.
The purpose of this role is to lead EHS strategy definition and execution across Belgium. This role will:
- Be a member of the Belgian Management Committee contributing to strategic decision making and continuous improvement against all Environment, Health and Safety subject areas across the different sites of Belgium (Gembloux, Wavre and Rixensart) including all types of activity (Manufacturing, R&D, Quality Control, Engineering and Maintenance, Site Management, administrative and global functions).
- Responsible for development and implementation of strategies in relation to the main EHS risks in Belgium and be the Duty Holder for some of these High Severity Risks.
- Create the EHS vision, strategy and program which will drive improvement in the management of EHS risks and overall EHS performance and ensure alignment and compliance to local regulations and permits, and to GSK standards
- Develop and manage the EHS shared services function to provide the essential support and operational expertise needed by GSK operations in Belgium.
- Will represent Belgium in key external forums and to the competent authorities about any EHS related topic/obligation.
- As member of Belgian Management Committee influence and actively contribute to the strategic decision-making processes, maintaining the profile of EHS issues, ensuring adequate technical support (biosafety, process safety, machinery safety, chemical safety, occupational health, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, Wellbeing, loss prevention, environmental stewardship and dangerous goods transportation) and championing environmental sustainability
- Represent GSK Vaccines sites in Belgium to the country’s EHS regulatory authorities and stakeholders (Federal Public Service, Police and Controls Department, Biosafety and Biotechnology Service, Intercommunal of Walloon Brabant, …) and ensure compliance of Belgian activities (including manufacturing and research and development) to federal and regional regulations and permits, to GSK policies and standards
- Liaise with external organization on EHS and loss prevention issues in order to anticipate new regulations and develop strategies to minimize the impact on the business
- Develop and implement EHS policies, vision, strategy, programs and procedures which meet the expectations of regulatory agencies, GSK and its insurers
- Lead the EHS Belgium Council and the Institutional Biosafety Committee, both country-level governances and provide business updates and performance reports to EHS Council, CPPT, RMCB, Vaccines management, and the various GSK above-site functions
- Prepare Belgium activities and lead in any EHS or loss prevention audits by regulatory enforcement authorities, insurers or relevant GSK functions
- Implement and oversight the EHS management system for all Belgium activities and agree with senior management tailored EHS improvement plans for operations, performance objectives and targets which meet regulatory and GSK requirements, including proper training, management monitoring activities and audits
- Update EHS risk registers at the across-site level and where required at the business operations level
- Develop and coordinate emergency response and crisis management plans, including the Belgium employee health pandemic preparedness plan
- Develop and support the investigation and proper management of EHS adverse events and near misses to determine root cause, reduce the likelihood of recurrence and maximize the organizational learning
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in EHS and risk management. Preferable this is in vaccines / biological /pharmaceutical manufacturing. Must have experience of dealing with a complex regulatory framework and multiple regulatory bodies.
- Understand vaccines research and manufacturing techniques, biosafety levels, able to assess what can go wrong and formulate strategies and solutions to prevent this happening
- Have a level of education that allows for strategic understanding and the ability to influence others across the company
- Influence key stakeholders both internal and external
- Secure resources to ensure effective risk management
Influence senior managers in the organization and converse in both business and EHS terms.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics it would be a plus:
- Science/Engineering degree or equivalent (MSc) is mandatory AND EHS post-graduation qualification e.g. MSc and CP1 (conseiller en prevention niveau 1)
- Biological/engineering AND EHS Management
- EHS; Environmental Management, BioSafety/Chemical Safety
- Risk Assessment and Risk Management; Legal compliance and regulatory understanding;
- Competent in the interpretation of data;
- Knowledge and understanding of both Environmental and Health & Safety management systems;
- Experience and ability to lead and deliver sustainable solutions
