Responsibilities

The position will support circular economy programs that Eastman Chemical Company is having in EMEA region. The technician will be responsible to validate analytical methods and to provide analytical support to projects focusing on the valorisation of waste. Applicants who have a good understanding of various analytical techniques, in particular liquid chromatography and/or elemental analyses techniques (ICP, XRF, CHN) are preferred.

Job Overview
  • Complying and promoting the Eastman Safety Culture and follow the safety rules applicable to our Analytical Laboratories. Maintaining a clean work area in line with Eastman’s housekeeping standards.
  • Using general analytical techniques and instrumentation which is not limited to but includes: LC, GC, GC-MS, XRF, ICP-OES, CIC, titration, pH-measurement…
  • Support project team working on valorization of waste in the region developing and executing analytical method to identify waste composition and eventually to follow syntheses from waste.
  • Execute analyses organizing and prioritizing experimental work based on timelines and objectives
  • Assure suitability, accuracy, and reliability of analytical test results and methods.
  • Follow-up installation and start-up of new analytical equipment’s
  • Define maintenance and calibration for instruments and devices; direct contact for the supplier for equipment trouble-shooting.
  • Ensure analytical development is documented in technical reports, test methods, and/or laboratory notebooks, as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor or master’s degree in chemistry with specialty in analytical chemistry
  • Ideally the applicant will have expertise in using gas, ion or liquid chromatography techniques and/or in elemental analyses such as ICP-OES, XRF or CHN analyses.
  • The ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet demands set by the department, company or internal requestor.
  • Must be self-motivated, looking for ways to improve laboratory work processes, testing accuracy and safety. Consistently makes sound decisions based on data and anticipates problems.
  • Knowledge on Microsoft Office is preferred; knowledge of Agilent OpenLab software is a plus.
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken is essential in this international work environment; knowledge of Dutch and/or French is preferred but not mandatory
  • Must be able to communicate experimental results clearly to peers & supervision through email, verbal communication and/or concise report to internal customers (Scientist, Technical Support rep.).
  • Job is in an R&D environment. Ideal candidate is energized by non-routine work, innovation and is able to show flexibility
  • Must be able to work with people having different personalities, cultures and different job functions.
