Job Purpose

As director Medical Writing Therapy Area Head, you will:

  • Apply leadership and influence capability in an internal matrix and with external partners, incorporating the organisational vision into strategic and operational proposals/decisions.
  • Lead and manage a team of Medical Writing Asset Leads to provide the Medical Writing strategy to Therapy Area projects, the design and delivery of end-to-end high-quality fit for purpose clinical documents including those for regulatory submissions, the plans for efficient/accelerated ways of working and key organizational process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and Manage Direct Reports:

  • Develop Organizational Talent–Lead and manage a team of internal Medical Writing Asset Leads to provide the medical writing strategy for delivery of clinical documents through the development lifecycle.
  • Hire and integrate newcomers
  • Create opportunities to develop and apply new skills and minimize barriers to development.

  • Strong understanding and ability to incorporate organizational considerations into strategic and operational decisions.
  • Create and gain commitment to a future vision. Ensure it is measurable and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead through vision and values.

Negotiate:

  • Explore positions and options to reach agreements and solutions.
  • Present clear arguments to gain acceptance of ideas and influence outcomes to meet organizational objectives

Judge & solve problems:

  • Demonstrated track record of quality decision making and creative problem resolution that impacts program/project direction.

Risk Taking:

  • Make decisions when outcome is unclear, act with potential negative consequences

Process Improvement and Compliance:

  • Ownership of process to develop cross-business clinical documents and capabilities

External Relationship, Influence and Communication:

  • Leadership role in GSK’s response to external regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrate an ability to influence others, internally and externally, to form beneficial partnerships with external organisations to meet company objectives
  • Capable of leading and serving as a medical writing point of contact for one or more assets.
  • Support prioritising workload across an asset or group of assets to deliver portfolio
  • Ensure Medical Writing strategy is aligned with the portfolio strategy
  • Lead, drive, promote and implement key organizational process improvement initiatives.
  • Proactively generate ideas for simplification and improvement taking advantage of opportunities that arise.
  • Promote environment for others to generate ideas for improvement and champions novel business solutions in technology and ways of working.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent expertise Life sciences
  • Demonstrate experience in multicultural settings (to reflect our external customers/clients [health authorities/patients] and diverse environments with respect to dynamics of human interaction (including working with remote teams)
  • The role requires excellent interpersonal skills
  • This role also has broad influence to drive process change to meet the organisational vision, and capability to represent GSK externally for Medical Writing-related initiatives.
  • Project and people management skills
  • Strategic thinking with strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with team members in various locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years’ experience in clinical regulatory writing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including demonstration of leadership.
