Finance Specialist Accounting

Proximus, a listed company in the telecommunications sector, headquartered in Brussels, is looking for a Finance specialist to strengthen its ‘Accounting Personnel and Tax Expenditures’ team.

Team

The mission of our team is to ensure the correct recording in the income statement of costs related to personnel, i.e. payroll and related provisions, employee benefits, flexible compensation plans and the financial determination of all commitments related to reorganization, long-term benefits and post-employment benefits, for Proximus SA and some group subsidiaries (Proximus NXT, Proximus MediaHouse, Proximus ADA, Mobile Viking, ConnectImmo, ..).

We also manage the accounting of certain tax-related costs (such as pylon taxes and tax provisions) in compliance with BGAAP and IFRS valuation rules. We are involved in the accounting preparation of Proximus tax return. We also prepare the annual financial statements of a subsidiary and coordinate its external audit.

In these areas, our team is responsible for:

• The accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of accounting entries for expenses in these areas.
• The monthly closing of Proximus and subsidiary accounts and the explanation of figures and variances.
• Annual closing and preparation of statutory accounts.

Our team is also involved in all projects within our area of responsibility, including projects relating to employee benefits, in order to determine the appropriate accounting treatment and provide recommendations.

Tasks and responsibilities

• You become familiar with the processes related to your area of responsibility.
• You take part in the payroll closing process by carrying out analyses enabling you to give financial validation to monthly payrolls/salary provisions, working in close collaboration with the personnel department, and more particularly with the internal payroll department. You will define the accounting rules applicable to new payroll items and ensure that they are correctly integrated into the accounting system.
• You will participate in the financial modelling used to calculate reorganization commitments and long-term benefits.
• You organize the accounting process for post-employment benefits. You define the accounting treatment of these benefits after analysis and in consultation with management. You prepare and deliver the required information to the external actuary. You analyse and validate the actuarial reports and ensure the correct monthly accounting of these benefits and prepare the monthly reporting.
• You calculate the monthly tax provision. You participate in the process of preparing the schedules for the annual tax return. You will work in collaboration with the tax department for responsibilities relating to tax tasks.
• You will ensure that accounting transactions in your area of responsibility are correctly recorded, in compliance with BGAAP and IFRS valuation rules and with the closing calendar.
• You take part in accounting closing activities. You prepare monthly internal control and tax reporting reports. You will prepare analysis reports for accounting management and financial controllers, explaining variances from previous periods. You will be responsible for the quarterly justification of the accounts, and for justifying open balances.
• You take part in external audits, providing reports and explanations requested by the auditors.
• You participate in the preparation of the annual financial statements in your area of responsibility.
• You are responsible for improving, automating, and simplifying accounting processing and follow-up in your area of activity.
• You work in close cooperation with other departments within the company.
• You will participate in projects that impact your area of responsibility, defining requirements and scenarios and providing financial expertise.
• You monitor changes in accounting standards (BGAAP and IFRS) and regulations related to your area of responsibility. You ensure their correct implementation in your area of responsibility.

Your Profile

• You have a master’s degree. Ideally, you will have at least a short period of experience in auditing or consulting.
• You have a good knowledge of BGAAP and IFRS.
• You have recent experience in the field of general accounting.
• You have good knowledge/experience of SAP and Microsoft Office tools, with a focus on Excel and Power BI.
• You have good communication skills in French, Dutch and English.
• You are results-oriented, rigorous, and professional.
• You are autonomous, efficient, and well-organized.
• You respect deadlines and can manage priorities, even in times of stress.
• You have an analytical mind and a constructive, pragmatic approach to problem solving.
• You are a team player with a positive attitude.
• You take initiative.
