About The Role
UCB seeks a visionary leader as a Head of Belgium Technical Services (BeTS) to oversee and manage various department involved in maintenance, metrology, automation, Qualification & Validation, infrastructure, and support services across its Braine campus, Leuven research facility, and Anderlecht headquarters.

External networking activities, such as representing UCB at ISPE, will also be part of your role.
What You’ll Do
This is a critical leadership position that requires a deep understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry and the ability to ensure the highest standards of compliance, efficiency, and quality across our research, development, and manufacturing activities.
As BeTS Leader, You Will Be Responsible For
- Performing all required activities to keep UCB assets to a targeted performance level, and to integrate any new facility, as well as research, development & manufacturing assets linked to new product launches.
- Defining a clear strategic vision of technical services support to Belgian sites in alignment with its internal clients and suppliers.
- Deploying the strategy ensuring an expected operation performance. You’ll manage our asset life cycle by ensuring the right balance between predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenances, initiating required investments if needed. You make sure that short-, mid- and long-term investments are in line with site master plans and 10 YP, and manage expenditures.
- Setting up internal governance bodies within Be TS (project & risk portfolio, people, and operations), and representing BeTS interests in executive governance bodies (investment committees).
- Overlooking that the right people capabilities are in place, i.e. appropriate workforce and competencies. You also ensure talent retention, development, and well-being of your team members.
- Ensuring compliance to legal and GxP regulations, safety & sustainability (green) rules and aspirations.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- A Master’s degree and 15 years of experience in maintenance related activities.
- Technical & efficiency awareness: You should understand utility production, equipment maintenance, periodic verification, qualification & validation, automation, facility services, investment management, continuous improvement, and a performance-oriented approach to enhance equipment availability while prioritizing safety and efficiency.
- Communication : Effectively engaging with various profiles, providing diverse stakeholders with tailored information for decision-making, maintaining frequent communication within a large team, and managing expectations across multiple Business Units (Patient Value Units).
- People Management: You will be fostering a speak-up culture, empowering individuals, adopting a coaching approach, cultivating trust, delegating effectively, aligning team focus with priorities, making crucial decisions, developing individuals, and being responsive and agile in your leadership style.
- Strategic awareness: You’ll be involved in creating a strategy aligned with operational challenges, connecting the team’s strategy with UCB’s overarching strategy, effectively handling organizational changes, devising a detailed implementation plan, overseeing and controlling the plan’s execution, and defining a local strategy for asset management (e.g., aging assets, investments, etc.) within the broader strategy framework.
