We design and manufacture sensor-based sorting machines and integrated post-harvest solutions for the food industry, using the world’s most advanced grading, sorting, peeling, and analytical technology. Our mission is to enable our customers to improve returns, gain operational efficiencies, and ensure a safe food supply via smart and easy-to-use technologies. To achieve this, we operate centers of excellence, regional offices, and manufacturing locations within the United States, Europe, South America, Asia, Africa and Australasia.

We are currently looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our team that is responsible for Field Service work (commissioning, operation, testing, integration, optimization, maintenance and repair) worldwide.

The role includes on call technical phone support and field response to equipment and customer issues. You will provide detailed field reports that are useful for the whole organization after every installation or technical intervention and give support to Sales and Project Management. You will also provide training for customer’s maintenance&service personnel on client site as well as for TOMRA Food Service Engineers.

This position is ideal for a self‐motivated adventurer, as there will be traveling involved, both domestic and internationally.You have a true passion for engineering and being self-motivated to fully complete tasks comes natural to you. You are a grounded personality with a no-nonsense mentality. You feel comfortable in an initiative role and, although you are a great team player, you have no problem working independently to achieve the organization’s ultimate goal. Multitasking is fine by you and you are able to cope well with deadline pressure.

You consider yourself to be a self-starting person who is highly result-driven and constantly focused on quality and continuous improvement. As communication is key, you have excellent communication and facilitation skills with the demonstrated ability to present or handle complex technical information and issues in a user friendly manner. You also have ability to relate to customers, their views and issues, locally and in other countries and cultures, based on your acquired cultural awareness.

Your tasks

  • Deliver an effective field service work in terms of costs and timing.
  • Ensure the maximum performance of the TOMRA Sorting systems in the field to satisfy the customers.
  • Evaluate and diagnose problems and make appropriate repairs.
  • Install or make adjustments on TOMRA equipment.

Your profile

  • A relevant technical degree (Engineering, Electric/Electronics/Mechatronics or similar)
  • Relevant experience in on-site field service supporting industry clients as technician/maintenance specialist or service engineer.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering
  • Good knowledge of basic electrical power circuits & experience with electrical maintenance
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Willing & able to travel internationally mostly within Europe, for at least 80% of the time and based on a flexible schedule. This means your assignments could also be during weekends or in holiday seasons.
  • Knowledge of PLC Step 7 and TIA circuits would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and configurations is considered a plus
  • Basic understanding of programming, preferably C++, C, Java or Python are considered to be a plus
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, internal and external associates, and management.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Other languages (German or French in particular) is considered a plus.
