We are looking for a Lead Performance Improvement to strengthen our Performance & Industrial Excellence Center within the CTO department.
The Performance & Industrial Excellence Center focuses on maintaining a high level of operational performance and lowest cost (consumption) in all Aperam divisions. Within this CTO department, Aperam is looking for a (senior) profile to define and roll out a roadmap, together with the departments’ head and the stakeholders on site to improve the performance of all Aperam divisions.
You report to the head of the Performance and Industrial Excellence center. Within your department you work closely together with the Lead “Cost Improvement” and the specialist “Technical skill development”. Within the department you can count on support engineers to roll out the roadmap. Within CTO, you can rely on a technical expert team as well as other experts within the other CTO departments (CAPEX/Innovation/ARMP-WCMa).
Responsibilities
Safety:
- Field presence is in your DNA: You know the importance of being present in the field.
- You have a proven record of being in the field to reinforce good behavior or correct wrong behavior.
- You are aware of and have a proven record of applying the principles of “just culture”.
- You are a driver to realize the Aperam safety indicators over the different sites by sharing best practices.
- You take safety into account in every aspect of your job (whether it is selecting suppliers or prioritizing projects, …)
- You challenge sites on OEE performances based on benching and practice-sharing.
- You set clear definitions on OEE with the buy-in from all Aperam divisions, to be adapted in a 2nd stage on all Aperam divisions uniformly.
- You identify, together with site stakeholders of the Aperam plants (from Steel Plants up to Finishing lines) the actions to be taken to get back to best performances: You define and align projects to improve the OEE.
- You implement sustainable work-processes which increase the efficiency (not work-load) of Aperam. E.g.: You create an OEE dashboard, automatically generating KPI’s including comparison with best practices and targets for efficient work practices. To achieve this, you work closely together with plants’ department heads (even with production line managers) to understand their needs. Once the needs are clear, you will receive the support of a programmer.
- You analyse the influence of obsolescence on the OEE. You gather the information from sites’ shopfloor and are able to weigh the risk exposure for Aperam. You work closely together with the CTO “Process Expertise Obsolescence and R&M”.
- You lead the continuous improvement challenge, fostering a continuous improvement culture throughout Aperam, while aligning the challenge in accordance to Aperams’ most recent priorities/goals.
- You define projects according to the Prince2 methodology, clearly defining costs (budgets/ resources/ …), benefits, timing, roles&responsibilities… You support the sites managing the projects under execution (based on the priority/ budget and resources/ timing/ …) and execute the projects together with the different sites. You share lessons learnt on one site with the other involved plants.

- You work closely together with and get the buy-in of all involved stakeholders in what you do. E.g.: Production/ Production services/ Supply chain/ Purchasing department. You keep the best interest of Aperam in mind, listening and taking concerns into account in your work outcome.
- You guide the project engineers with regard to the implementation and support of the projects on-site.
- You prioritize the work in accordance with Aperams’ most recent defined goals.
- Engineering degree
- Detailed/Expert level knowledge of OEE
- Willingness to travel is required.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a production environment in the industrial sector or any relevant field.
- You have a track-record of being driven and result-oriented.
- You are an analytical problem solver who has a deep feeling of accountability and responsibility.
- You speak, write and understand English fluently and can speak fluently at least 1 of the following other languages: French, Portuguese, German or Dutch.
- You know how to analyze data and draw the right conclusions from it.
- Advanced level of knowledge Excel/google sheet
- Proven record of project management skills.
- Profile:
- You act as a coach with a clear vision and decision-making
- You create bridges between the operational departments and CTO and are able to influence/ persuade/ motivate your peers for a job to be done
- You are a good communicator who knows how to listen to remarks given and translate these messages to concrete actions affecting your own work.
- You foster an environment of trust and are able to resolve conflicts.
