The Position

Job Summary

Primary purpose

• Ensure a healthy and safe working environment in compliance with all applicable legal and company requirements for plant production staff

• Manage all production activities on the site in order to obtain the required output, quality, on time. Organise personnel to always be available to operate the plant at the required level

• Develop and implement procedures (recipes) to ensure best practice for the production of all products

• Coordinate with other departments (engineering, quality, etc….)

• Optimize production process to reduce variable costs, including crude, energy & chemicals, increase productivity in Willebroek

• Meet all reporting requirements & deadlines

• Ensure production complies with the requirements of our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standard

• Supervise lead and control the activities of the Shift Supervisors and the Production Assistant

Accountabilities

• Supervise & coach all production personnel on site to carry out activities in a safe and environmentally compliant way

• Manage production staff to produce and deliver products to meet agreed customer requirements

• Optimize production process to reduce variable costs, energy & chemicals, increase productivity in Willebroek

• Manage all production consumables and finished goods stocks to optimise production efficiency and working capital

• Work in close cooperation with the Maintenance Manager, Process Manager and Quality Manager in order to ensure that activities / process improvements are aligned

• Participate in initiatives to improve the operational performance at the Willebroek facility.

• Management Team: active participation in on-going business development. Leadership for all production initiatives.

Reporting

• Monthly reporting of Willebroek production and consumption of raw materials, consumables and energy within given deadlines

• Ensure written reports are provided for all process work on site.

• Ensure report with reliable relevant KPI’s to the local management – also important to evaluate your production process

Process development

• Plan & organize tests to improve existing processes and new equipment in collaboration with Engineering and R&D

• Manage the storage of on-site process information and samples

Team Work and Collaboration

• Maintain close contact with teams in the Imerys Graphite & Carbon Business Area and Imerys Corporate to exchange know-how to ensure transfer of knowledge and use of most appropriate technology by working collaboratively and sharing information (eventually during site visits)

Continuous Business Improvement

• Process development to support ongoing continuous improvement

• Identifying & implementing best practice for Carbon Black processing at the Willebroek site.

Problem solving

• Root cause analysis in case of Injuries or Process Safety Events and the implementation of corrective actions.

• On time production of the required quality in a cost effective way

• Root cause analysis of non-conforming (NC) production and implementation of cost effective solutions

• Modifications to production plans to maintain efficient operation while meeting customer requirements

• Root cause analysis of deviation of process best practice and identification of corrective actions

• Identify all significant variables that impact process output

• Resolve operational requirements with cost effective solutions fully meeting all QHSE requirements. This will include considering existing and new solutions for technical problems

• Manage and coach plant production personnel to carry out their tasks in the required way. Identify and develop low cost options to meet customer requirements

• Visitors, especially customers, but also representatives from suppliers and contractors

• The role requires products to be available on time and meeting the customer expectations

• Detailed knowledge of QHSE requirements for plant production personnel on site

• Detailed knowledge of production procedures to be followed on site

• The role has a significant financial impact (variable & fixed costs) without conflicting with producing to fully meet customer requirements.

Education & qualifications

Bachelor degree in Chemical engineering or similar science discipline.

Relevant experience

• 3 to 7 years relevant professional experience in a Chemical industrial production environment or similar

• Continuous improvement experience

• Supervision of personnel
