The Department of Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) is a critical part of the Discovery Sciences organization in Janssen R&D and is committed to the delivery of high-quality clinical candidates and ultimately approved therapeutic solutions for all Therapeutic Areas (TAs) Janssen R&D is committed to. We are currently seeking an outstanding individual to join our team as a Scientific Director - DMPK Project Leader, who will assume a leading role in driving DMPK strategy and execution as a program representative on cross-functional development and discovery project teams. You will have comprehensive knowledge of both in vitro and in vivo ADME and pharmacokinetics and experience integrating DMPK data/principles with pharmacology and toxicology profiles. In addition, you will develop a deep understanding of the program biology/pharmacology and will be an active partner on project teams, providing scientific leadership and strategic direction. You will engage with our global DMPK functional area to ensure the best DMPK science is leveraged in a discovery or development stage appropriate manner. You will have the opportunity to represent the program and DMPK function at project review and portfolio governance meetings. This position will be based in Beerse, Belgium and will report to the EU Head DMPK development project leaders. Qualifications Qualifications: Ph.D. in pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, or related discipline with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in the evaluation of small molecule therapeutics. Experience in modalities such as small molecules, oligonucleotide-based therapies, and molecules “beyond the rule-of-5” such as protein degraders and macrocyclic peptides. A strong understanding of ADME and pharmacokinetic principles and experience in supporting drug discovery and drug development as a DMPK project representative, as demonstrated by a proven track record of scientific achievements and project influence. Broad understanding of various DMPK relevant areas such as physicochemical properties, drug metabolizing enzyme and transporter kinetics, mechanistic biotransformation, in silico predictions, and qualitative and quantitative bioanalytical techniques. A strong understanding of regulatory guidelines for DMPK packages to support drug development (from First-in-Human studies to submission) Solid chemistry and biotransformation background considered a plus. Talents: Ability to integrate complex data from multiple sources into a rational understanding of drug disposition. Ability to translate these data into project relevance as part of anticipating and/or mitigating project challenges. Good negotiation and influencing skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills are essential. Effectively communicate DMPK-related data and their relevance to multidisciplinary project teams, management, regulatory authorities, and potential partners. Ability to work with sometimes conflicting priority settings to adhere to project and departmental timelines.
