The location is flexible – either in Titusville, NJ; Raritan, NJ; La Jolla, CA; or Spring House, PA. Consideration will be given to candidates in New York, NY, South San Francisco, CA or Beerse, Belgium.

The Data Science at within Janssen R&D develops innovative solutions using a variety of data sources (-omics, digital health, imaging, real-world data, etc.) across multiple disease areas. We are looking for an outstanding Scientist to research and develop AI technologies for biology and support activities spanning from drug discovery to development, patient stratification, multi-modal endpoints, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceive, develop, and validate sophisticated AI/ML solutions to high-priority biology problems in drug discovery and development
  • Participate in cross-functional collaborations with internal scientific and data science teams and external companies
  • Participate and shape internal and external collaborations, help define the scope of research questions
  • Extract insights at scale from complex, high-dimensional, high-throughput multi-omics data to improve drug discovery and development (e.g., target/disease identification and quantification, mechanistic insights, patient characterization and stratification, etc.)
  • Clearly articulate innovative methods (e.g. based on deep learning) and results to diverse audiences and partners to drive decision-making
  • Contribute to a culture of excellence and high standards, continuous learning and growth, collaboration, and respect
Education

Qualifications
  • A PhD degree in AI/ML, computational biology, or related
Experience And Skills

Required:
  • Strong experience in developing, optimizing, and validating AI (deep learning) models on omics data (e.g. DNAseq, RNAseq, scRNAseq, etc.)
  • Proven track records of publications in top-tier journals and conferences, patents, awards, etc.
  • Fluent in Python, R, or related software environments and AI packages like pytorch, tensorflow, scikit-learn, etc.
  • Experience with computational infrastructures like git, AWS, Docker, etc.
  • Expertise in one or more therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology, neuroscience or cardiovascular
  • Can-do attitude and ability to work in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, on fast-paced, high impact projects
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Passionate about leveraging data to drive scientific innovation and continuously learn new AI techniques in the domain

Preferred:
  • Experience with high-throughput data generation pipeline, from sequencing platform to data analysis environment is a plus
  • Additional expertise in computational chemistry is a plus
  • Experience with working in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company
  • Experience working closely with healthcare professionals
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical work to a wide audience
Other:
  • Up to 10% travel to conferences and key internal meetings primarily.
