Analytical Associate Scientist (Digital Laboratory Implementation)

To strengthen our Analytical Sciences for Pharmaceuticals Group in charge of the Analytical Development of our small molecules pipeline (small molecules & peptides), based in Braine-l’Alleud (Belgium), we are looking for an Analytical Associate Scientist with a strong interest in digital tools and analytical techniques.

In this position, you will contribute to the advancement of our portfolio of projects entering pre-clinical and clinical phases until commercial registration, launch and throughout the lifecycle of our marketed products and contribute to the implementation of digitalization process.

The main responsibilities consist in:

• Developing and validating fit-for-purpose analytical methods according to QbD principles (risk assessment, DoE, modelling) for APIs, Drug Products and In Process Control (IPC).
• Supporting API and Drug Product process development. In particular working together with Product Development department in order to develop best suited formulations and establish clinically relevant specifications.
• Transferring analytical methods to relevant commercial QC and manufacturing units and participating to their lifecycle management.
• Ensuring release and stability testing of API and DP clinical batches from phase I to phase III.
• Ensuring release testing of raw materials, starting materials and intermediate of synthesis.
• Participating to the daily bench activities as well as supervising activities performed externally.
• Participation to implementation of digital tools (Electronic lab book, sample management, electronic documentation, …)
• Providing high quality documentation of all technical work performed in the laboratory.
• Actively participating to project meetings as well as internal scientific meetings.
• Participating to the implementation of new state-of-the-art analytical methodologies and process improvements.
• Contribute to the culture of digital transformation of the analytical lab by implementing E2E structured workflows in the electronic lab notebook.
• Support the implementation of digital solutions with lab field experience.
• Support the implementation of analytical laboratory equipment connection.
• Support the implementation of data and visual analytics and automate reporting.

Education experience and skills:

For this position, a bachelor or master’s degree with experience in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Analytical Chemistry) and with minimum of 2 to 5 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.

Key areas of expertise are the following:

• Expertise in small and/or peptides molecules analytical method development.
• Expertise in digital tools.
• Expertise in key analytical techniques such as liquid and gas chromatography, SFC, mass spectrometry, Karl Fischer, …
• Knowledge of the statistics linked to method capability understanding, validation and transfer.
• Detailed understanding of USP, EP and JP Pharmacopoeias.
• Detailed understanding of regulatory and GMP and safety environments.
• Understanding of QbD principles applied to method development is a plus.
• Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in both French and English.

Key soft skills are the following:

• Ability to work in a matrix organization in different technical areas.
• Capacity to work in collaboration with external resources.
• Ability to find technical solutions and activate all appropriate internal /external experts to solve the issue.
• Ability to efficiently translate acquired data into knowledge answering the project needs.
• Ability to independently manage scientific tasks in order to meet deadlines within given constraints in resources, e.g. headcount, equipment, time, etc.
