Counsel, Privacy & Security - EMEA

Reporting directly to the CPO, the Counsel – Privacy and Security supports implementation of the Mars privacy program across all Mars segments in the EMEA region. The Counsel works closely with other members of Mars Privacy as well as the larger Ethics & Compliance team to ensure Mars complies with regulations and appropriately manages risk.

• Law degree from an accredited university or equivalent

• Licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdiction

• Undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

• Extensive experience as a practicing attorney supporting privacy and data security compliance programs in EMEA region.

• In-house experience preferred, preferably in CPG sector and at a global organization

• Expertise in Data Protection/Privacy and digital marketing requirements and regulations in the region, experience with standard contractual clauses and other data transfer mechanisms, notice and consent standards, incident management, monitoring/audits, individual rights requirements, training and awareness, data privacy impact assessments and third-party risk management.

• Supports the execution of Mars’ Global Data Privacy Program strategy and governance in alignment with legal and regulatory expectations.

• Primary responsibility for performing basic privacy functions including initial review of data privacy impact assessments, tracking and managing responses to data subject access requests, initial intake and review of privacy and security data incidents, and supporting privacy and compliance elements of third-party management.

• Provides basic data analysis related to the privacy program and contributes to ongoing assurance activities.

• Provides legal research on regional regulatory changes as directed;

• Contributes to global risk management and continued development of data privacy program.

• Monitors regulatory developments in specific risk areas and provide concise updates to key stakeholders.

• Serves as a strategic and tactical legal resource to provide clear, concise, and accurate guidance; advises on complex legal issues related to specific risk areas.

• May provide significant substantive support large scale projects from inception through completion.

• Identifies and elevates issues; supports the Chief Privacy Officer as needed.
