Cinemaximiliaan is looking for a GENERAL COORDINATOR (m/f/x)

Cinemaximiliaan is a social and artistic initiative aiming to create authentic connections between individuals from diverse backgrounds. Open to all, we actively reach out to both newcomers in asylum centers and to the wide artistic field.

The presentation and creation of film, music and art are the spark to generate common experiences. Also social events, gatherings and collective meals energize the Cinemaximiliaan community.

We welcome people in our social guest house in Molenbeek, a warm place to connect, breathe and orchestrate coincidence. By embracing differences and stimulating everyone’s creative capacities, we want to promote and practice a more inclusive society.

Gwendolyn Lootens, artist and filmmaker, started this initiative together with Gawan Fagard, art historian and film programmer. It started in 2015 with daily film screenings in the refugee camp in the Maximilian Park in Brussels. Under their leadership, Cinemaximilian grew at lightning speed, thanks to the efforts of an extensive network of volunteers, including many newcomers.

After 6 years of growth, both founders want to focus more on their own artistic practice in combination with their initial passion within Cinemaximiliaan: building and maintaining relationships with newcomers for Gwendolyn, developing artistic programs and projects for Gawan. Cinemaximilian is looking for the right candidate to co-write a new chapter of an organization in transition and ongoing development.

Function and tasks

As general coordinator at Cinemaximiliaan you are first and foremost a connector. You are responsible for the daily policy and operational functioning of the organization. You put the renewed mission of Cinemaximilian -as described in the intro- into practice together with a motivated team and committed volunteers.

• You develop, in consultation with the board of directors - to whom you report - a strategic plan from which the organization can continue to develop sustainably.

• Together with the team you develop the content policy of Cinemaximilian, as a guideline for the choice of future projects.

• You develop a vision around HR and organizational structure, translate this into a policy and then implement this in practice.

• You inspire and guide a team of project leaders. You develop qualitative projects together with them and monitor their implementation, quality and follow-up. You stimulate consultation and promote internal communication.

• You have the final responsibility for the financial policy. You test the project plans against the financial possibilities and, in consultation with the team, actively seek alternative sources of funding.

• Together with the team you work on the image of Cinemaximilian to the outside world and you strengthen the professional network.

• You keep a finger on the pulse of the socio-cultural work field in Brussels and beyond and anticipate current questions, needs and opportunities.

Profile

We are looking for:

• a coordinator, coach and connector

• a charismatic representative of Cinemaximilian with a heart for newcomers and affinity with the vision and mission of Cinemaximilian

• relevant experience in a managerial position, preferably in a social and/or socio-cultural organization

• a person with strategic insight and sense of reality, who can also think outside the box

• a people-oriented and participative attitude

• a real communicator and team player, stress resistant

• good knowledge of Dutch (grant applications, reporting), English (internal & external communication) and French; knowledge of another language is a plus

• a knowledge of Brussels and Flanders at political and administrative level; knowledge of federal and European structures is a plus

• willingness to work evenings and weekends
