ArcelorMittal is looking for aGeneral Counsel Belgium & the Netherlands

Mission

You will be General Counsel Belgium & The Netherlands within the ArcelorMittal Group Legal & Compliance organization.

You will provide advice and guidance on a wide variety of legal matters across a range of business environments in Belgium & The Netherlands. Our ideal candidate is experienced and interested in setting up complex investment projects and transactions, partnerships and JVs, combining a knowledge of several legal areas including corporate law and M&A, environmental and energy law, financial law, contract law, IP law, project finance, alternative structuring, public private partnerships, etc.

You will be the first point of legal contact to senior management in Belgium and the Netherlands. Your role will be to coordinate legal issues that arise in Belgian and Dutch sites and ensure these issues are properly dealt with by the right person (e.g. by colleagues senior legal counsels, external lawyers ).

This function requires strong project management skills and leadership qualities, both when taking care of the legal advisory role as when coordinating the legal needs in Belgium & the Netherlands.

Responsibilities:

Specific accountabilities and responsibilities include:

• Primarily acting as trusted senior legal advisor in Belgium & the Netherlands. Proactively providing sound and pragmatic counseling, at the same time minimizing and mitigating legal risks.
• Lead the Belgian ArcelorMittal legal team, define its strategy to successfully and efficiently act as business partner .
• Advising on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters, with a particular (but not exclusive!) focus on the areas above.
• Delivering training to the business teams on a variety of legal and compliance related matters.
• Actively participating and supporting international legal initiatives of ArcelorMittal. Regularly sharing best practices, new challenges or developments, innovations and efficiency related projects.

Competencies and Experience :

• 12 to 15 years of work experience on a wide-range of legal matters in the area of, partnerships and JVs, investment, commercial and corporate law, environmental law, with a particular focus on setting up complex projects and transactions.
• Experience in an (inter)national law firm or (international) company is a prerequisite.
• Fluent in Dutch, English and in French.

Education :

• Master’s degree in Belgian Law.

Skills:

• The willingness and capability to be a “hands-on” lawyer, with a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic approach.
• The willingness and capability to analyze and solve complex legal issues.
• The willingness to develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with ArcelorMittal, ArcelorMittal’s businesses, its people, markets, facilities and customers.
• Strong communications skills: ability to effectively communicate in an international environment, with various stakeholders;
• Stress-resistant, flexible and open to embracing changes (future forward looking mentality).

Location & Travel:The position will be located in Gent (ArcelorMittal Gent offices close to Zelzate), but you might have to travel from time to time in Belgium (and occasionally abroad).
