Innovation & Design Engineer – Barco Labs (ADX)

Barco Labs is the Corporate Research & Development unit within Barco and is a global organization reporting to the CTO. In Barco Labs, we explore a broad range of cutting-edge topics including Novel Projection Technologies, Next Generation Optical Displays, Computational Optics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics & Advanced Healthcare applications.

Role & Responsibilities

In the Advanced Displays X (ADX) group within Barco Labs, we are looking for an “Innovation & Design Engineer” who will work towards building exciting next generation products & solutions for Barco. This role is based in the headquarters of Barco in Kortrijk (Belgium) and will join the ADX group and report to the Technology Director – Barco Labs ADX.

In This Role You Will
  • Contribute to the innovation design cycle of research projects within the ADX group
  • Create mechanical design of new products and improve existing designs for new functionalities
  • Drive rapid prototyping of design ideas and drive them to execution together with other experts
  • Work to seamlessly integrate the different aspects of the product design (Optics, Electronics, Mechanics, UX & Software)
  • Bring in elements of design thinking & ‘maker culture’ to augment our rapid prototyping process
  • Continuously monitor the external innovation sphere to foster internal innovation efforts
  • Participate in global innovation efforts within the broader Barco Labs organization

Qualifications & Skills
  • You have a Master degree in Mechanical/Design/Industrial Engineering disciplines
  • You have worked in innovation driven product companies for at least 3 years
  • You have experience in rapid prototyping of hardware projects (3D printing etc)
  • You have an excellent blend of sketching & engineering skills for visualizing new ideas
  • You have exposure to 3D content generation with Unity/Unreal engines
  • You understand the basics of light, projection optics & optical display technologies
  • You have exposure to the optical architectures within AR/VR/XR applications
  • You are a fast learner to pick up on new simulation/design tools & software
  • You are a self-driven, goals oriented and in general comfortable to work in a global organization
  • You are open to a limited amount of travel associated with this role (up to 20%)
  • You can communicate cross functionally in the company comfortably in English (Oral & Written)
