The context and the company

BioWin is the Health Cluster of Wallonia, Belgium, the regional reference holder for all stakeholders in health biotech and medical device research and innovation projects (https://www.biowin.org/en ).

The competitiveness cluster brings together all the innovation system players in the field of health (biopharma and medtech) in Wallonia, with the goal of stimulating regional economic redeployment.

Initially, BioWin’s role was largely focused on the development, selection and monitoring of collaborative research and innovation (R&I) projects involving universities, research centers, academic hospitals and industries. In 15 years, BioWin has developed a portfolio of 59 R&I projects for a total budget of 191 million Euros.

This role has expanded over time, and today, the cluster is also involved in implementing the sector’s industrial policy (industrial innovation and research, training, support for business growth, etc.). The purpose of this is to develop and anchor skills, knowledge and jobs.

Your role

In the heart of a booming BioTech and MedTech sector, Biowin is facing huge challenges and has clearly identified the need to reinforce its R&I team with a strong scientific profile focused on the entrepreneurial community and passionate about their growth.

The Innovation Senior Manager is a truly key position within the cluster’s most vital activity: the accompaniment of research projects labelled as risky, disruptive and early-stage.

As Innovation Senior Manager

• you will be building up and following up collaborative Research & Innovation projects involving both companies and universities.
• You will organize and ensure follow-up of calls for projects.
• You will coordinate the selection of projects collected during the calls for proposals, as well as the periodic evaluation of funded projects (selection of experts and assignment of these experts to proposals).
• You will actively contribute to the preparation of project files.
• You will accompany the Manager/Management Team of the projects you are in charge of in an impactful way over several years: strategic thinking and input on the research strategy, identification of academic and clinical partners, establishment of links with experts (e.g., market access, regulatory affairs...), setting up and analyzing indicators and in a more evolved stage of the project.
• You build up or maintain a thorough knowledge of the administrative and institutional ecosystem (DG06, Walloon Government…) and consolidate relations with this ecosystem for the smooth progress of your files.
• You will oversee the development and coordination of research consortiums, and you may support the preparation of European or international project applications.
• You will maintain and manage a network of international experts and you will be actively involved in advanced interaction with these experts in charge of evaluating projects
• In the perspective of our collaborations with other foreign clusters, you will monitor and benchmark international best practices in project management
• Biowin is a very dynamic cluster offering many events to its members. In your role as Innovation Senior Manager you will participate and support the organization of networking events
• You will work autonomously, under the responsibility of the Director Research & Innovation and Director Innovation & Growth.

As a catalyst for innovation that is responsive to our changing world, Biowin is particularly focused on 4 main scientific areas. In your role as Innovation Senior Manager, you will be responsible for several projects in these areas:

• BioPharmacy (& biomanufacturing of the biopharma products)
• Radiation applied to health
• Medical devices & in vitro diagnostics
• Digital health

The projects you will be in charge for will cover different stages of development, from lab-based research to demonstration to market uptake.

Your Profile:

Minimum qualifications for this position include:

• you can count several years of project management experience in the biopharma sector in a complex environment with a lot of stakeholders, at least in a Research & Development role
• You hold a PhD in pharmacy or bioengineering
• You have a strong track record in the biotech or biopharmaceutical sector (at least 5 years)
• You can demonstrate relevant project management experience
• You have proven experience of working with multiple stakeholders
• Having experience in the development of European projects is an asset
• You are able to work independently and act as a team player.
• You have excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
