Context of the hiring :

Knauf Insulation is working on our group’s sustainability transition program by developing and leading innovative special projects for decarbonization and energy savings. A key topic that concerns us and makes sense today. Especially for this purpose we created the position of “Sustainability Project Engineer”.

Purpose of employment :

The job covers a wide range of activities going from process analysis and technology evaluation to proof of concept and in some cases full-scale implementation.

Managing several projects in parallel, also abroad, the Sustainability Project Engineer will oversee and manage following aspects:

  • Understand the production technology for producing mineral wool (glass- rock) and woodwool.
  • Based on Knaufinsulation road map to “zero carbon” and “reduction of utility consumption”,manage the development of projects/concepts, if required, supported by internal stakeholders and third parties:
    • Analyzeprocess, make energy balances
    • Investigate and define appropriate technology
    • Give input to the designer to create process and instrumentation diagrams
    • Defining/Sizing of equipment and piping based on basic process calculations
    • Define process safety concept {HAZOP}
    • Feasibility study (business - case financial and sustainability, with the help of the cost controlling department)
    • Liaising with the technology engineers (process, civils,….) for tendering and scoping.
    • Scope definition and budgeting.
    • Define KPI’s as well as associated acceptance and performance tests.

    The Sustainability Project Engineer gets familiar with different technologies related to de-carbonization and energy recovery (with support of third parties, R&D department,…), and acts as consultant in this matter for the group.

    Furthermore, he defines and develops adequate sustainability standards, to be used in new plants and assess the plant process data and delivers some audits for the group.

    Your mission & responsibilities :

    Here is in a few words, what is expected for the function with more technical details:

    • Design and implement specific sustainability projects in European plants or abroad.
    • Manage technical projects of 0,5M€ to 5M€ value.
    • Prepare scopes and estimates with options/alternatives as appropriate to allow to make business decisions and obtain appropriation approval.
    • Prepare a project implementation plancomplete with schedule, project organization, and contract strategy
    • Communicatewell through periodic reports and reviews with the plant and engineering team.
    • Manageengineering, planning, control, procurement and construction personnel in a matrix organization to accomplish project objectives
    • Motivate project team member and work with the project team members to ensure adequate and timely work to accomplish objectives
    • Advise and supportcivil engineers with the detailed civil design (equipment/building interface)
    • Advice and support Electrical & Controls engineers to define and commission control systems
    • Support process and drafting engineers with design calculations, P&ID’s, layouts
    • Manage project changes to minimize cost, timing and performance impacts and obtain management approval of changes when required
    • Resolves issues and coordinate activities by serving as the focal point between the internal stakeholders (plant, project team, procurement manager…). and the external partners (contractors, authorities,….)
    • Negotiate issues with contractors/suppliers to the best interest of the project, supported by the procurement department
    • Deliver the objectives of the project on time, within budget tolerance, and meeting the fitness for use.
    • Maintain competency and state-of-art knowledge in pertinent aspects of decarbonization and heat recovery.
    • Control and issue technical files to plant team, work out maintenance task lists, give recommendations for spare parts for pre-listed machines.
    • Participate to network meetings.
    • Lead audit on CO2 emissions or energy consumptions and recommend improvements to the process and equipment.

    Your profile :

    You have:

    • Engineer or equivalent by experience in Electrical, Electro-mechanical, Sustainability or Energy techniques.
    • At least 5 years of experience in anindustrial environment.
    • Experience in ProjectManagement.
