The primary responsibility of the Technician is to provide animal care and support in vivo research projects for our client through both individual contributions and teamwork.
Job Responsibilities
- Support in vivo research projects by performing in vivo and limited in vitro/ex vivo technical procedures such as sample collection, compound delivery, surgical manipulation, and behavioral assays if needed.
- Development, validation, and translation of induced (surgically manipulated, compound-administered, or other) models to/for our clients.
- Data collection, entry, and support of analysis in various software databases.
- QC of all procedures performed including the preparation and review of study materials to be archived.
- Partnering with scientific team to refine investigatory techniques and models with 3Rs as guiding principles.
- Provides input and troubleshoots scientific experiments in related areas.
- Operates laboratory equipment and analytical and other instruments; and ensures its proper operation and maintenance.
- Provides quality animal care to animals, including providing food and water, cleaning animal cages and rooms and provides support with enrichment and socialization activities.
- Communicate with veterinary staff and scientific staff on the health and well-being of research animals.
- Supports the delivery of technical training and participates in proficiency assessments.
- Maintain records to comply with SOPs, applicable animal welfare guidelines and internal compliance regulations.
- B. Sc. or M.Sc. with minimum 2 years of working experience in a relevant environment.
- FELASA B laboratory animal certification is essential.
- Hands on technical expertise with one or more laboratory animal species.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a cooperative and communicative nature.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Works with day-to-day autonomy with minimal supervision, demonstrates the capacity to expand areas of expertise and learn new skills to meet changing needs.
- Excellent organization skills, including scheduling, follow-up, and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical activities such as pushing and pulling racks of cages, lifting and moving water bottles, bags of feed, and bedding, reaching, stooping and bending. The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds is required.
- The ability to work weekends and holidays as assigned is required.
