As a Patent Manager at Agfa Gevaert, you will play a pivotal role in protecting and nurturing our intellectual property assets, helping us continue our legacy of innovation and supporting our business growth.A Typical Day Might Include

• acting as sparring partner for IP managers and search, find, analyze and visualize all relevant information regarding patents and new technological developments.
• conducting searches, and then analyze and communicate the findings in a complete and concise manner to customers
• reading, analyzing and classifying third party patents and technical publications in technical fields relevant to Agfa, especially Membranes (Zirfon) and Electronic Print (Orgacon, PCB)
• providing information to IP managers for evaluation of the patentability of Agfa inventions and of the validity or possible infringement of third party patents
• creating and managing automatic search profiles in patent databases to find new patent applications of competitors
• organizing and chairing patent information meetings with R&D colleagues and IP Managers
• building competitive intelligence: completing the puzzle with all pieces of information to predict the product development and strategy of a third party
• upgrading patent search knowledge collected from workshops and user meetings on patent search tools
• evaluating patent search tools and databases and managing subscriptions in collaboration with Purchasing
• providing input for the budget of the IP department

Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in engineering or science (preferably in chemistry) or similar
• familiarity with intellectual property or competitive intelligence is an asset
• training in patent law, search know-how and the assigned technical domains will be provided

• strong technical and analytical skills
• ability to work independently, but also a team player
• affinity with reading and analyzing scientific and patent literature
• eye for detail and able to analyze, organize and present detailed technical information
• interest in legal aspects
• good IT skills (MS Office, use of databases…)
• strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
• e xcellent knowledge of Dutch and English , additional language knowledge is a plus
