The Position
Packaging Engineer

Job Summary

This person supports and drives continuous improvement in the CB treatment and packaging part of the Carbon Black operations. This part of the process consists of an older packaging plant with manual labour at the filling machines and a new fully automated plant. The operation is 365/365 – 24/24 with a 4-shift-system.

He/she works closely with the I-Cube champion (Operational Excellence Engineer), the Maintenance Automation Engineer for the new plant, and the Production, Maintenance and Engineering department. He/she reports to the Production Manager.

Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for an optimal day-to-day operation of all packaging installations and related equipment to ensure maximum output, both on the older installations as on the fully automated plant.
  • Reference point for technical knowledge with regards to all packaging installations and related equipment for operators, with support of the maintenance and engineering department.
  • Support the Imerys Safety System (Protocols, TAKE 5, S7…) and further improvement of the safety in the packaging area (separate mobile equipment from pedestrians, machine guarding, LOTOTO, slip, trip and fall).
  • Drive OEE improvement of the packaging lines and related equipment.
  • Identify production issues and bottlenecks, define potential solutions and implement.
  • Further improve the CB purity e.g. eliminate metallic impurity and contamination risks.
  • Problem solving. Root Cause Analysis (5-Why, Tap Root) and CAPA to eliminate special causes.
  • Support the organization with implementing IATF16949.
    • PDCA. Support the process owners with SOP’s and WI’s.
    • FMEA
    • Bring the organization from a product quality to a process quality focus.
    • Management of Change.
    • Standard work for routine activities and deviation handling.
  • Together with the local I³ Champion, implement and drive the Imerys Operational Excellence program called I³ (Imerys Industrial Improvement) within his/her area.
  • Identify capex project needs, and support the business case, design and implementation.
  • Develop good relations with the key OEM’s of the filling, handling and treatment equipment like Haver & Boecker, Greif Velox and Premier Tech Chronos to become the subject matter expert in the organization.
IDEAL PROFILE
  • Master degree in Engineering, preferably Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven relevant work experience, preferably in the chemical, automotive, pharmaceutical or food industry.
  • Experience with following disciplines is an asset:
    • Packaging and handling of solids
    • IATF16949 (or the previous version ISO/TS16949)
    • FMEA
    • Robotics
    • Lean, 6Sigma, TOC, Operational Excellence programs
    • TQM
    • Dust management
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English, written and oral.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to health and safety regulations.
  • Flexible. No 9-to-5 mentality.
  • Hands on mentality
  • Effectively balances the need for plans and processes with the need to act swiftly and decisively. A “can-do” attitude with a sense of optimism.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple departments without authority.
  • An enthusiastic self-starter who can think and work in an autonomous way with little supervision.
  • Very at ease with IT tools.
