As Business Development Manager you are part of the Hydrogen membranes team within Agfa’s Digital Print and Chemicals division. The position is responsible for leading the Technology Scouting and New Business Development in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Hydrogen Membranes business. Your key responsibility is to scout, identify, research new markets and technologies in order to develop new business opportunities for Agfa’s membrane business. In order to reach this ambitious target, you will work closely with the Business manager, Strategy office, Legal, IP department, Sales, R&D and Application.Job
- Proactively survey emerging trends and technologies to identify opportunities with respect to the growth objectives for the Hydrogen Membrane business, covering membranes itself but also potential adjacencies; and also to identify those that might represent a competitive threat.
- Work with Business Leader, Strategy Office, R&D and IP to identify gaps to the strategy that are best addressed through external partnerships and/or M&A ventures.
- Analyze target markets to identify Targets that enable the strategy or address gaps. Execute a technical/business due diligence and develop an entry strategy if appropriate. Ensure Legal review.
- Propose and establish an external network of relevant partners/contacts to succeed in the goals above.
- For selected targets, work cross-functionally to develop clear objectives, business case, and a strategy for acquiring the needed technology or capability.
- Develop a robust pipeline of companies, institutions, and opportunities aligned to strategic technology gaps in a way that enables an objective assessment and prioritization. Keep this updated and refreshed.
- Understand and define the IP landscape relative to targeted needs and opportunities.
- Work with Legal, ensure the appropriate agreements are developed and executed at all stages of the Technology Scouting and the processes related to setting up partnerships.
- Elaborate the business development strategy, including the financial impact on the 5 year financial plan.
- Using your industrial experience you understand the business value of new technological options and know how.
- Commercial acumen and excellent negotiating and networking skills are key success factors
- 5+ years of work experience in a similar role.
- Experience / knowledge in the domain of energy transition and chemical industry.
- Technical background (Commercial engineer, Ph.D., Master in Chemistry, Engineer) and passionate about business.
- International work experience.
- Customer- and business driven.
- Result driven and accountable.
- Pioneer and team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Flexible and able to deal with change.
- You have a good mastery of the English language, both verbal and written. Any other language is an asset.
- Willing to travel (up to 30%)
