Director, Business Development & Acquiring Partnerships, Mastercard Direct Services

Mastercard Direct Services (MCDS) is a dynamic Pan European B2B sales unit centrally located in Waterloo, Belgium, reporting into the European Market Development Group Executive. The MCDS team model is fast growth, delivered through efficient and effective remote account development and management. We operate in 35 European markets, focusing on high potential medium / small customers in big markets, developing customers in remote markets and on-boarding of new prospects, both as account managers and business developers. We work closely with the Division and Country presidents, Account Management, Product, Business and Acceptance Development, and other functions

Role – Director, Business Development & Acquiring Partnerships, Mastercard Direct Services
  • Lead the Strategy for Acquirers growth within the MCDS base.
  • Develop a pipeline and processes for MCDS/Market Development Europe.
  • Drive strategic partnerships and control risks with Top Acquirers from MCDS base.
  • Execute on solid pipeline of opportunities, develop E-com strategy, run CNP campaigns.
  • Grow revenue by selling MC Digital products, C&I and D&S Services, etc.
  • Control risks for Mastercard and compliance with Mastercard rules.
  • Develop useful data reports for the regular meetings with Acquirers.
  • Execute on the existing in the MCDS base and work on further development of Money Send originating institutions. Support their expansion and open new corridors for X-boarder payments.
  • Deliver on strategy and start partnership with small/medium size Marketplaces. First demand comes from the remote markets (9 countries) where MCDS manages entire business for Mastercard.
  • Drive extra revenue by executing on the Open Banking strategy: activate MCDS customers for “Protect” and “Connect” services.
  • Engage with the local and global teams to support customers’ expansion.
  • Establish and support partnership model between MCDS and Acceptance and BD teams in the local Offices.
  • Work with cross functional teams on creating new efficient ways of cooperation with Acquirers, Payment Facilitators and Processors.
  • Establish a continuous flow of new Acquirers and Payment Facilitators for MC license on-boarding through the MCDS.
  • Manage directly business development activities with top MCDS Acquirers, develop partner relationships.
  • Management of customers as well as internal stakeholders to successfully design, build and implement customer solutions.
  • Accountable for the entire MCDS Acquiring related opportunities pipeline.
  • Deliver on strategic and operational targets to MCDS Team.
  • Maintain strong relationship with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Participate in commercial activities and develop sales with key customers.
  • Educate MCDS Account team with regards to the Acquiring and Acceptance development topics.
  • Be a change agent! Advance focus and rigor related to product development and bring AGILE thinking to the table to differentiate Mastercard from the competition.

  • Must be articulate and creative, adept at delivering face-to-face presentations to a senior audience and/or a broader organization.
  • Planning & negotiation skills – being able to balance input from multiple sources as well as utilization of scarce resources.
  • Excellent relationship building and strong communication skills.
  • Data Analysis, Data tracking & management skills.
  • In depth knowledge of MC products and services.
  • Project management & planning.
  • Worked with Salesforce CRM system.
  • Financial forecasting and reporting, budgeting.
  • Strong strategic business development and strong sales experience/skills
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrable application of financial industry/banking operations and business practices with a strong focus on payment products (acquiring).
  • Fluency in at least 2 European languages is required, English is a must
