Role Purpose

The role holder manages the full lifecycle of a product line with several products on a global or regional basis in a leading role for a team of product managers jointly with the engineering counterparts. The role requires a very broad and comprehensive understanding of the overall relevant IT market, customer challenges, technology trends and competitive offerings. The role will include leading the product line strategy definition and derivation of new products and innovations from ideas, industry experience and contact with technology partners, customers and prospects and packaging them into product releases considering profitability, cost positioning and quality targets. This role requires a broad communication with all areas of the company, working with marketing & communications and business development to lead the global or regional go-to-market strategy definition. It will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for our product portfolio, working with sales, key customers and partners.

Key Accountabilities

  • Market Understanding. Understands market, competition and user needs well and matches this with the product segment strategy to develop his product line further.
  • New Technology Analyses. Evaluates the viability of new technology product ideas in the context of the organization’s strengths and capabilities, production capability, quality, costs, and marketplace demands. Takes the lead and defines a product line strategy in line with the overall segment and division strategy.
  • Business Planning. Plans tactically for a line of products within the framework of the product segment and division strategy, including product pricing and life cycle management. Creates and controls the business plan. Confirms or initiates "Make or Buy" decisions.
  • Lifecycle Management. Defines a "go to market" concept, prepares life cycle management for a product line in the context of the product segment and division strategy Monitors and supports the inventory management and the relevant service functions.
  • Defining Product Requirements. Supervises the definition of product requirements (features, time to market, costs, pricing and profit) for a line of comprehensive products. Plans a product line within the framework of the product segment and division strategy.
  • Cross Functional Coordination. Coordinates various functions, including development and quality assurance, engineering, manufacturing, legal, finance, marketing, sales and other Product Managers. Acts as escalation level in case of diverging divisional targets.
  • Documentation. Supervises and monitors the preparation of product descriptions and product data for offering, logistics, manufacturing and lifecycle management.
  • Sales and Marketing Support. Holds product and strategy presentations for customers and events including key user group meetings. Gives and monitors input for advertisement documentation for product presentations on the customers’ side and for events.
  • Team Management. Manages a team of Product Managers with or without formal employee supervision.
